Hey guys I have a Springfield 1903 and I would like to mount a scope to it.

Would there be any options that would allow me to keep the iron sights? If not, what would be your choice for a bomb proof mount?

Thanks for the help.

since 'bubba' has already done his thing, (and nicely too) just drill and tap, using a Redfield base and rings,

Okay, I looked up the Redfield mounts and it seems that I will need to have the rear sight removed. Is that correct?

What is the purpose of the part I circled?  It appears to be a dove tail with a part in it that says Marble. Is this for some type of scope mount?

Pardon my ignorance. I'm new to this type of rifle and its Bubba style.

Thanks for the help.

you will have to either remove the slide, (part that goes up and down) or the complete rear sight, I can't tell if you can remove the slide from your pic,

and it looks like you have a band, that held a rear sight, probably a folding leaf, and has the dovetail filled with a blank, that will not be in the way with a Redfield mount,

if your rear sight has a screw that sticks out the back or front side, you can unscrew it a ways, and it should depress, which will allow you to pull the slide off from teh top,  the slide covers one of the screws holding the sight base in place,

if you decide to remove the site, order some screw blanks to put in the hole when you do, just to fill the hole

if you install a modern scope, you may also have to install a Buehler style wing safety, so it will clear the scope
