I got a good deal on an M1A mount (Free) and went out today to put it on my rifle. Problem is, the screw for the left side of the receiver is stripped. Is there anywhere I can get a replacement?

Here is s picture of the mount:

I would guess that a replacement bolt from Smith Enterprise would work.

I sent them an email - $20 for a replacement. I guess it is better than a new mount.

Please check the "Receiver Hole" threading first.
I have a pre-owned Springfield Armory Supermatch with NO Threads at all in the receiver.
It was either made that way or buggered up before I got it.
Be carefull not to mess up the remaining receiver threads if they have any damage at all. Might need a simple tap-cleaning but BE CAREFULL!

Oh, it is definately the bolt - you can see where the metal has stripped off. The receiver threads look fine.

If you have an SAI receiver I believe SEI needs to modify your mount or the bolt will just keep on stripping every time you torque it up.  I'm surprised Ron Smith did not make you send the whole thing back like he did mine.  He modified it for free though and I was the second owner the original owner stripped the bolt also.

Edit:  Sorry I see that is not an SEI mount, my bad.  You may have the same problem though with the screw stripping.

do you have an new Springfield M1A receiever? I know that the newer springfield receivers dont fit the SEI mounts. This was true for both mine and a friend of mine. We both have M1As born within the past few years. I would try a new 3rd gen M1A mount if u really want a mount at all. never had a problem with mine.

SEI mounts fit SAI receivers fine after Smith makes the proper adjustments to the mount.  And btw I have a brand new SAI (from 8/08) and on it I have a SEI weaver mount.  It fits fine but required a trip to SEI.

The problem is probably the mount not the receiver. On my old Smith mount the bolt barely stuck out of the mount far enough to fit into bolt hole on my SA receiver. Ron tried to say it was the receiver was out of spec. It was very obvious that my receiver had nothing to do with the bolt not sticking far enough out of the mount. Never the less Ron said the problem was my receiver and it would be $60 to have the mount modified and shipped back to me.  After I had the mount machined down at a local machine shop for $15 so the bolt stuck out farther I didn't have any more problems. This left a pretty bad taste in my mouth about my almost $300 SEI mount I had to have machined in order to have it work. After that I sold the SEI mount and then mounted an ARMS 18 mount and a Basset mount on my "out of spec" receiver with no problems. Here are some pics of the problem with the SEI mount.
This pic shows where I had the outside of the mount machined down so the washer would go down farther and allow the bolt to stick out of the mount further.

This one shows the washer near flush on the inside of the mount after machining it down.

Here is a little MS paint picture of the problem if the real pictures didn't explain it.

To the original thread starter you might check Basset Machine for the bolt you need. I believe they sell them for $10 shipped.

Ron Smith modified and re-parked my mount for free and I was not even the original owner.  This was back in Sept/October.  He freely admitted that his mounts are made to fit M14s and not M1As and needed to be modified.

Here is the SEI mount on my SAI Loaded:

Dang, I read your post too late. I ordered one from Smith. Hopefully it will work.

I'm glad Ron was decent enough to do that for you but he wouldnt for me. As my pictures show and explain the receiver had nothing to do with the problem. If I ever get another M1A i'll be putting a basset on it for simplicity and price.

That is a pretty crappy experience and I would be PO'd too.  I can only speak from my experience and I know from experience that his mounts fit on M14 spec. receivers just fine unmodified.  The guy I bought mine from had it mounted on his Poly just fine and when he tried to mount it on an SAI he stripped out the bolt and sold it to me and I called SEI and they treated me well like I said and I ended up with their weaver mount for $80.  I actually emailed them a week before I bought the mount about the Weaver mount and the first thing they asked me was, "Is this for an SAI M1A?"  Maybe they figured out after your experience that the SAI receivers require this modification?  Oh and I believe what you had done is pretty much what they did to my mount, removed some "width" from where the bolt goes.

Well, I got it in and it fits great. Only problem is I was charged $10 for shipping. It came in a padded envelope with a sticker for USPS on it with a postage charge of $1.63 or so and a receipt for $30 to my CC. Bad enough $20 for a bolt, but $10 to ship? I sent him an email to make sure I was billed correctly and he confirmed $10 for shipping. If this mount doesn't work out for me, I will not be going back to Smith Enterprises for anything.

Weird, my Smith weaver mount works perfectly with my May 2008 built SAI Standard.
Works great with my Armscorp scout too.
Buddies Smith mount "M14 Scope Mount, Wire EDM, NSN 5855-01-506-5750" works great too...It's just too long and I prefer the weaver mount.

Neither rifle had to go to Smith for anything.
