Does anyone know where I would be able to send the bolt off my Remington 721 to have the Sako conversion done?  The extractor is missing and apparently they are non-existent anymore.  I'm willing to ship the bolt off to anyone with the experience and skill to do the job right.  As best I can tell this is a one shot deal.  None of the gunsmiths in my immediate area have the tooling required to do the job.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any qualified gunsmith should be able to perform the task.  Some may refuse to do it due to liability issues (serious design alteration of the bolt).

I think it would be easier (cheaper) to have a smith or machinist modify the bolt to use a 700 extractor.  I can't remember if it uses the rivited extractor or the rivitless one.  But these parts are readily available.

I could be wrong but am pretty sure that the 700 extractor is not a drop in part for the 721s.  But for the $20 bucks it could be worth examining carefully to see just much they differ & if it could be made to work with a little "adjustment".

Check with someone on Benchrest Central in the gunsmithing forum.  There's an active thread there right now on this topic.

I know a guy here that does the conversion, but I don't know how long he would take to get it done.  The other idea I have right now is to check with Greg Tannel in Colorado; search on Gre-Tan.

At one time, i think remmington made a "rivetless" extractor for the m700, 742, & 760.

this would be your huckleberry
