I've never had a gun before and a cheap shotgun is my only option, Im looking for something tactical like the 870 MCS or a Benelli M3.....The 870 MCS looks perfect but i dont know much about the details of guns....I only plan on using this at a range, but i love guns (like you guyshe What do you guys think? Is the 870 worth my money?

you cant buy a mcs, but you can have one made, just chop the barrel buy the forgrip and have a gunsmith put a rail on the reciever

ok so i can just get a 870 and purchase the tactical stock?...And thats basicly the same thing except for all the conversions....right?

yeah I've done up 2 tactical shotguns so far the stock i used was a little pricy but i didnt want to have to have the reciever taped so i got a Mesa Tactical High tube adaptor but i love it and it came with a top rail and i did a custom front grip for my other 870 myself

That sounds really nice....I guess im only worried about the stock right now and knowing that i can simply buy it and put it on really helps. So where can i get a Rem 870? Internet?

Wal-Mart sells them.  Gander Mountain, Dick's etc.  Just about every guns shop I have been in has used ones as well as as assortment of barrels.

the MCS is a SBS
you need to get the licence to own one
unless you make a similar version
Get the 870 Pmax

Ok so i took a look at wal-mart and i think my best bet is the Remington 870 Express Synthetic Deer Gun 12/20..... Sound good?

The Deer Gun has a Rifled barrel on it... it would be just fine if you wanted to shoot only slugs but have a look at the tacked thread up above in reguards to shot in a rifled barrel...

If i where in your shoes i would pick up a 870 Police Mag if you had the money for it or a 870 Express H.D. and work from there..

the 870 is deffently the king of shotguns you will be very happy with it.. but take it from someone whos been there make sure you buy one with the barrel you want on it allready..

Being in WA look for Sportsmans Wherehouse or GI Joes. GI Joes Charges way to much but thats where i bought my first shotgun.. SW is likely to have the best price's on New firearms. but if your willing to go used theres alot better deals to be had out there..

if you can hit up a gun show and look around theres always a crapload of 870s floating around.. hell the other day i saw a mint shape wingmaster for 250..

I just got a Remington 870 Express HD for $270 at Sportsmans Warehouse. 6+1 capacity, smooth pump action and rock solid build quality (way better than Mossberg). Its the bottom one in the photo below:

I've been very happy with it - the only mod I recomend is to replace the factory mag spring, which is on the weak side, with a Wolff extra power spring ($5). I also added a sidesaddle, but this requires a bit of Dremel work on the forend. If you want to add a pistol grip stock, I recommend the Choat version, which I have on my 1187:

Well if 300 is your budget i would eather grab that one *not a bad price at all* or a Mossberg 500 if your willing to drop down a small notch in quality. the mossbergs are cheap (as in barrels and parts) and are easy to SBS if you ever want to go that route.

thinking back on it i almost wish i had gotten a Mossberg instead of my 870 becuse of how cheap it is to do anything to it.

On the same website a Mossberg 500 around 250 where as the remmington was around 300

but the thing where you get cheaper for the most part is if you want to change out barrels and mag tubes..

and there are pretty much the same stock for eatch shotgun as they are both very clouse competiors

Yes, very easy drop-in replacement (remove the buttplate, indo bolt, replace stock, reverse for assembly). You could then sell the factory stock on the EE. Looks great on a Rem 870. Fits a Mossberg too, but looks crap due to the trigger guard being located too far forwards (plus you can't operate the Mossy safety easily with a pistol grip). Stick with the 870.

I very much recommend the Remington 870 pump shotgun, a great, classic dependaple shotgun. If you want to save some money, do not overlook used 870's. I got a great deal recently at a local pawn shop, I bought a used Remington 870 older style blue finish riot shotgun, 18" bbl, and a Remington top folding pistol grip stock for 130.00 out the door.  If you find what you want, do not be afraiid to make a cash offer, they just might take it, or come back with a counter offer. Gun shows are another source for guns and accessories like barrels, stocks, etc. Watch the aisles at gun shows for individuals that have guns and accessories for sale, aisle sales are a great source for guns and accessories, just be very sure of what you want, look the item over carefully and have the cash ready. Knowledge is power and the more you know about what you are interested in the better. I am glad to see young people getting involved in guns and shooting, please remember that
safety is first,  and enjoy your guns and shooting!
