| LMT 10.5 M4, FA carrier, standard bolt with o-ring, standard trigger. All utterly reliable. Would installing JP competition trigger (including yellow springs) affect the reliability? Does this kit involve professional fitting? |
It comes with both a written instruction book and the video, and between the two you should have enough info for most people to do their own installation. The trigger has two set screws, one for overtravel, the other for engagement. You remove the old fire-control parts and install the JP trigger and either a stock or JP hammer, then adjust the two screws. You set the overtravel first by zeroing the screw out, then backing off and testing until it's where you want it. Then you move on to the engagement, zeroing it out and backing off until it's right where you like it. At the end of the installation, you locktite them in that position. The JP trigger comes with a match (semi) disconnector, and the manual/video shows how to adjust it by filing during the installation. I needed an FA disconnector since I was using this in an M16, so I tried a Colt factory disconnector and it worked perfectly with no adjustment. JP offers three different weights of springs -- the yellow (3-3.5-pound), Tactical (4-pound) and Service Rifle (4.5-pound). You can mix-and-match the hammer and trigger springs. I went with the yellow trigger spring but use a Service-Rifle hammer spring because I shoot a lot of 9mm and hard-primer surplus ammo, and the stronger hammer spring helps. FWIW, a bunch of folks here and on other boards have installed the JP trigger. I have never heard of anyone having an installation problem. HTH! |

It should be noted, that the JP FCG uses a what I think they call a J-spring on the left side of the hammer that "holds" the hammer pin in place. If you lose that then if the hammer pin walks out to the right then the hammer will never connect to the disconnecter causing a slam fire issue. I have two JP trigger packs and love them for what they are, however I use and highly recommend using KNS gen2 pins to make sure this doesn't happen. The "J spring" is VERY small its easy to miss when putting everything back together. With the KNS pins you don't need it. One of mine sits in my DPMS AR .22. Yes it sounds like a totally waste of money to use it in that but that trigger pack makes shooting Rimfire rounds go off almost 100% of the time. The other one is in my M4 clone. I really can't bitch, there great products. You should really enjoy yours. One other note. Don't not use their pins or KNS pins until you have the final setting your happy with, then and only then do you loctite the set screws and put your KNS pins in. If for what ever reason you think your done and loctite it the screws and then need to go back and adjust it again, pull the FCG back out spray it with brake clean will break the loctite allowing you start over. You more than welcome to PM if you need help. I have done about 60 of these for friends in their AR's. ym |
