This will be a SHTF setup for 2 people. The platform is 2 AR15s and 2 Glock 19s. 5 mags per rifle, and 3 mags per pistol. The budget is 1k per person. I want a setup that doesn't draw attention to me to start off with. I'm thinking level 2 police surplus armor, 3 day pack with water carrier, IWB holsters, something to carry an AR15 concealed if that's possible. I also want a plate carrier with level 3 or 4 plates for when I don't care about concealment. I will also need some kind of med kit. I already have Israeli bandages.
Is there a reason to not use new condition police surplus? What are my options for carrying an AR15? Walking around after a disaster in this area with an AR would probably get me a lot of unwanted attention from the police. Is there a way to attach it to the 3 day pack? I was thinking some kind of gym bag if I can't find anything else. I'm thinking about the Eagle Plate Carrier with steel plates, but I'm not sure which level plate to buy. What else do I need for a med kit? What do you think about this pack? It's inexpensive and has good reviews. http://www.lapolicegear.com/diplomat-3-day-backpack1.html |

This is an interesting thread. Your real problem is in not wanting to draw attention to yourself. That backpack looks like a military pack, and will draw attention. Body armor, again will draw attention. Carrying an AR15 in any type of gun bag will draw attention.
Get a civilian backpack, one like a Kelty or other name brand that doesnt look like a military pack with MOLLE all over it. A good pack will go a LONG way in holding all your SHTF items. -If you have a CHL, a G19 in a iwb holster is a good idea. I would recommand the Comp-Tac Mercator models. -For a med kit, you will want a couple israeli bandages, a tourniquet, and a flashlight or at least chem light, minimum. All this med stuff would fit easily into a pocket on your backpack. -For the AR, a gym bag, keyboard bag, tool bag...lots of ideas out there. Ive even seen discreet bags that has "Yamaha" or "Sony" patches on them, which were quite convincing. There will be tons of ideas out there on this exact subject, but remember if you dont want to draw attention, dont look like Rambo with all the latest tacti-cool gear. Think outside the box and be creative. |
| That's why I was thinking about level 2 armor to start with. It looks pretty concealable. The plates would only be for when it doesn't matter anymore. I agree with you on the pack. I will go with something else. I have my CHL and use a Crossbreed Supertruck for the G19. I'll need to add another for the other G19. |
