Ok, I have done some reading here and did not find this particular question answered. I also apologize if this is a dumb question.
I currently own a Daniel Defense DDM4V1. I have all intentions of my next rifle being a factory Daniel Defense MK18. I have reviewed the procedure for obtaining the tax stamp for the SBR and am clear on that. My question is this: can I send in the paperwork for my current lower receiver and in the mean time put away the funds for the complete factory MK18, then when the stamp comes back and funds are built, purchase the factory MK18 and swap the upper receivers, putting the MK18 URG on my then-registered factory lower receiver and my 16" V1 URG on the non-registered lower that would come with the MK18 upper in the factory configuration? I am just trying to avoid dropping almost $2,000 on something I can't even take home for another year. I also know if I start the paperwork I will be forced to put the money away and have it ready when the stamp comes back. Thoughts? |

Actually, you'd have to pay up front, at least at most dealers I've dealt with. And no, that wouldn't work, because the MK18 lower is already registered as an SBR. You can revert it to a GCA firearm but I very much doubt that many dealers will be willing to deal with this abortion of a procedure. The Mk18s don't seem to stay on the shelves long to begin with. Anything worth having is worth waiting for... |

Anything worth having is worth waiting for... If the lower on the factory MK18 is already registered as a SBR that completely kills this plan. Paying up front is a must here if you buy the factory rifle outright. Obviously you can't send in paperwork on a lower you don't own. Correct me if I am wrong again, but I COULD send in the paperwork for the V1 lower and when it comes back slap a MK18 URG on it and go to town, right? |

Definitely, that'd be no different then sending in paperwork on any other lower, except that since the V1 is already a rifle you wouldn't be able to buy or possess the URG until it comes back, unless you have a pistol or another SBR lower already. |
