I was inspired with the cheap harbor freight tumbling thread so took the shallow plunge and bought the setup.

I was worried about having some pins stuck in the cases after cleaning so I inspected all the rounds.

I didn't have any issues with the 150+ 5.56 cases I cleaned but found serious problems with 3 out of the 40 30/06 cases I cleaned.

I bought the media from buffalo arms.

Any thoughts?

It happens.  You have to inspect every one.

that is pretty much normal

in a batch of 10lbs of brass i normally get 8 or so cases with pins stuck in the flash hole.

right now i am testing some new pins that are .047 diameter versus .041 and i have not had pins stuck yet and i have tumbled 80lbs of brass -- 40 and 45 cases.

it is just part of the procedure to check the flash holes for pins.

and to answer questions ahead of time no the larger media isn't available yet and no i don't sell it.

That's pretty much what I figured.

I am happy with the results and this in no way will keep me from continuing. I'm just making sure I didn't mess something up.

Thanks for the reassurance.

I think this is the answer.  Why can't the reloading community come up with a pin specification that does the job correctly.  Thanks for the development work BIGGDAWG.

The other issue, I see is bridging across the inside diameter of the case body with a pin that is equal to inside diameter.  It seems that would take a pin that is too small in length to bridge across the smallest caliber, or too large to bridge across the largest caliber.

Why not leave the primers in and remove them after they dry.

The residual ash and anvil in the primer traps water and turns into a toxic goo.  Part of the goo is left behind when the primer is ejected.  Sometimes the pins are jammed in the flash hole from the inside, and the decapper pin has a helluva time.

One of the biggest selling points of stainless wet tumbling is that it cleans the primers pockets.

The pins stick is some flasholes but not others.

Just depends on the flashole diameter of the case.

Thanks for the info.

I've cleaned thousands and thousands of cases with steel pins and never had one stick in that way.  I got my pins from these guys STM.

Those pins look pretty rough on the ends, with lots of burrs.

Most stainless media has a forty hour break-in requirement (i.e. run the media by itself for significant amount of time).  Check out some jewelry manufacturing supply stores for help with media break-in.

I think you should contact Dave and let him know of the issue you're having with his pins.

I got my stuff from STM, and pins get stuck in about 2% of my .223 cases. I think it's just the nature of the beast.

Or, I have some jacked up pins.

Who's Dave? I bought my pins from Buffalo Arms. I'm not as worried anymore now that other people are chiming in and saying it just happens.

So far I've had zero stick in about 100 .45acp cases and I have had pins stick in 1 out of 220 6.8 spc cases.

Just to chime in, I got mine from STM and using in HF Dual Drum Tumbler.

Haven't had one stick out of 5 batches I've ran so far...but that is pretty small test.  9mm and 223
