Having a issue with the magazine catch/release on my rifle. I've fired about 150 rounds thru it and didn't have any issues with the rifle at all. The mag catch was a little difficult to press in, but not noticeably bad. Took the gun home and it sat on my reloading bench until this week. I was going to take it to the range again and run some more rounds thru it. I inserted a empty (English made)  mag into the gun and ran the bolt back, just wanted to have the bolt locked back for the range. I then tried to take the mag out of the gun. Pushing down on the mag catch/release, I found that the mag would not come out of the mag well. Tried several times, with two hands to push down on the mag catch and nothing. There doesn't fell like there's any tension on the release button at all. It just moves in a little and thats it. I took the floor plate, spring and follower out of the mag body and looked into the mag to see what was going on. I can see the locking tab mechanism  that holds/locks the magazine into the mag well. When I press the mag release it doesn't move at all. Anyone else hear of, or have this problem? Right now the gun has the mag stuck in the gun. I guess it will have to be back to MSAR.

Don't use steel magazines in your E4.  The internal catch piece is plastic and you'll damage the part by using metal mags with the gun.

I had this happen with my E4 too.  The catch piece is probably bound up and snagging inside the cutout in the magazine body.  The release is working but it isn't camming the latch back far enough to allow the magazine to be removed.  See if you can't take the floor plate off the magazine and get up in there with a long screw driver.  You hopefully can work your way up in there and help the latch out of the magazine body.

I'm a little baffled by a stock designed to take NATO mags that is damaged by those very same mags.  Seems really stupid to me.
I was eagerly awaiting a conversion kit for my STG-556 to make it 6.8 for hunting.  Sounds like the steel PRI mags will F*** it up
though and I really have no interest in it if that is the case.

So you can't us steel magazines in the E4? Is that in the owners manual or backed up by MSAR? On there website they show a picture of a MSAR rifle with a steel magazine in it. www.msarinc.com/STGE4.html (scroll down to the bottom), I didn't know this. I've been trying to move the mag latch out of the mag catch but have had no luck. I don't want to damage anything and have the warranty voided and have MSAR tell be I should have just sent it back. Thanks

I just got an E4 stock for my STG-556.  While I haven't had any "problems" with it (I haven't fired it yet), if that mag catch doesn't loosen up with some use, it'll find its was onto the EE to finance some STG mags.  The main reason I bought it aside from being able to use AR mags, was that I assumed that it would lend itself to faster mag changes............. isn't looking like that will be the case.   It's a shame too, as I REALLY like all of the other features that come with the E4.

This worries me, I live in a ban state and chose the E4 so I can use preban high cap AR mags.  I have a mix of USGI, Brit Steel and Wilson Thermolds.  PMAGs aren't an option.  Wondering if I should change my order to a standard STG model and try to find pre-ban Aug mags.

I've been looking around the internet and it does not seem like anyone else has had this problem. I wouldn't be to concerned with your rifle developing  this problem or using steel mags. Although I've used that mag (stuck one) a lot and never had any issues, it could have been damaged at some point and could be causing the problem. I sent the stock back to MSAR with the mag still stuck in the mag well. Should find out what the problem is soon.  Dave from MSAR has been helpful in getting the rifle fixed.

Relax, I have had no issues with GI mags and they feed perfectly.  The 20's also look damned good in the gun.
