First time this has happened to me, the powder itself looked good for the most part though. It was kept stored in my basement which stays pretty much the same temp. year round. Look at the price, I've had it for awhile. I checked this stuff about a year ago and it was fine until yesterday.

I had that happen on one of the old paper cans of Winchester 296 pistol powder.  Once it starts downhill it does not take long.  In my case the powder looked like fine rust.  I did not know at the time to fertilize the roses with it, so I piled it on the driveway and burned it.

So what does the powder look like?  Does it have a putrid odor?

Had a can IMR4895 that went bad and blew the primer out/ belted a 30-06 case. the outside of the can looked fine

I think the can tells you your problem. Rust means moisture exsposure.

Not really, it's fertilizer now.

That can of yours didn't age well.
