What the heck, H4895 is now $180 for 8lbs?

When did you last buy powder?

Did you check all the big sellers?

Yeah, it has been a bit. Lesson learned, should have stacked deeper .

I am seeing Varget and XBR for about $180/8lbs too,

I found ARCOMP for $150 and thought I hit the lottery.

Saw an announcement of 2017 price increases at a very well known powder retailer, perhaps on Facebook.  With the recent departure of the greatest firearms, ammo & reloading salesman of all time, maybe there will be a drop in hoarding or demand someday.  That well known retailer still talks about limits per customer but now allowing backorders on the web page.

I stocked up in a big way before the great salesman was elected president back in '08, looks like it was the right thing to do.

Yeah, I stopped at Cabellas today on my way home from WI, to look at their powder.

I was hoping to try H4895, but they had it for $32/# while most everything else was in the 20s.

Oh well...

Eta: I just wasted post 223 in this...

I believe I saw the announcement you're talking about. If I remember correctly, the increase was going to be about 14%. Seems like its true.

The one I saw was not that high, like 3-4% and was for Hodgdon, which seems about right but not sure.

The 8lbers at Midsouth / PV jumped up from ~$163 to $184 for Hodgdon, which wouldn't be so bad if they could actually keep up with demand.

Now I don't feel so bad about what I paid for the 29 lbs of H4350..

It went from $168 to $180. That's an increase of 7.5%. How can they justify that? My cost of living raise was only half that much. I guess they figure they're in the ''elitist'' crowd and are overdue for a bigger payday.

I'm glad I got the four 8 lbers in July. It should last me a few months .

H-4198 went up the same amount too. Let 'em sit on all of it for awhile.

Makes me mad too, probably still not keeping up with demand, perhaps planning on investment somewhere, they are somewhere on the curve and in the market where price wants to go up still.  Maybe still passing on some costs of government, with any luck Trump can reduce some of that.

Was in a sportsman's warehouse this past week and for the first time came face-to-face with 1 pound containers of true blue.

$28

As I can buy pound bottles of Hodgdon/Alliant for $20 locally I passed on it.

around here it's been $25 to $30 a pound ever since it came back in any quantity
I can still get CFE pistol/223 for around $18/$19 lb

at the gun show yesterday even the cfe was $20+ lb and others over $30lb

I'm just stocking up on factory ammo now, that seems to get cheaper every day

powder seems to be in the $22-28 range and primers are about $27-32 from Cabelas

the local gun shops then bump everything up another $5-7 compared to Cabelas.

$25-$30 seems to be the new norm here locally. Makes it easy to justify large orders from PV.

Friends of mine thought I was nuts for stocking up on Varget and TAC over the years....I guess I wasn't after all

Feeling pretty dumb for only buying 1 8lb jug of WC844 when they were $90.

At least I stocked up on primers when PVI was selling out of Wolf for $15.50/k

The lesson here is when you see a real screaming deal you need to buy enough to last you 20 years.  The stuff will keep if you store it properly.

If TAC works for you Wideners has it for $149/8, I know this is a tech thread so I do not want to turn it into a were to find . . .

I have had good luck with Ramshot TAC over a wide range of weights.

Powder locally for me is running between...25-30 or so. Its made it where I break even buying steel cased Wolf or reloading for .223. Which I guess is ok, since I hate brass prep so I'll stick with reloading for the 44 Mag.

I've got a jug of that around here somewhere...

I also doubt prices will drop any from what they are at now, at least not significantly.
