Does anybody have any experience with powdercoating a 10/22? I am in the process of building one for my daughter. Hogue stock, Hvy bbl, all the whistles. I have the receiver and trigger pack disassembled. Do I need to have the company that is doing the coating cover any areas internal to the receiver or trigger pack? I plan to have the barrel, receiver, trigger, trigger housing, scope rail, and scope rings coated. I plan to polish the bolt. Will there be any clearance issues if I let them coat the complete innards as well?

Thanks in advance.

Powder coating add significant thickness to the metal.  Things may not fit after that.

Any good powder coating place should be able to mask off the inside of the receiver and trigger group.  They can plug all the holes also so nothing gets in side.  You may have to sand the barrel down where it goes in the receiver but that is nothing major.  It may cost you a little extra for them to mask it off.

What color are you going with?  They have some real neat metallic colors in powder now.

The PowderCoater has no problems with masking areas off. I was questioning whether or not the powdercoat would add enough materials to affect the proper function of the trigger group and the bolt itself. I will just have them to mask off the internals.

BTW- since it is for my daughter and she will be 8 this year, it will be of the pink-ish flavor. Columbia coatings has a neat Candy Raspberry, and another local guy has access to some left over hot pink. I am awaiting samples to make the final determination on color.

Thanks

BD....

If things or the color sample provided by your powder coater doesn't work out.  Try this company, many of my co-workers and I have had our firearms done with this product called DIAMONDKOTE.  It's very thin, and takes a heck of a beating.  FYI... I have had 1 custom 10/22 done and 1 custom 10/22 magnum that I build for the birth of my son.  I also have a M4 done and a Knight SS XD that was coated in flat black.  M&RARMS has a few wild colors, the purple is pretty hot, might be a good option for your daughter?  Here's the link.
