I have been looking at the hi-cap pre-ban pistol mags made for the Beretta 92 and Browning Hi-Power. The Beretta mags are Asian military contract and the Browning mags are made in South Africa for their military. I have heard some people say these are good quality, I just want to confirm that here before ordering any.

Also, I have heard that the Mec-Gar brand magazines are also very good quality. What's the scoop on these?

I have no experience with either the Asian or South African mags, but I can tell you that the Mec-Gar mags are great. I have a few for my 92-G and they function flawlessly. I believe they are OEM for a few of the higher quality pistols made today. If you can find them, get'em.

I have quite a few 17rd SA mag's, and non of them have failed me either at the range or at the few IPSC's I've shot.  These SA mags throw rocks at pro-mag.  They fit flush and are not made of soft steel.  They stick out about a 1/2" from the bottom of the gun, but 17+1 is worth it.  I am fully confident in using these for carry as well.

DO NOT, I REPEAT....DO NOT BUY THE S.A. MAGS FOR YOUR 1911!  I thought since the Hi-Power mags were so reliable and well built, that the 1911 mags would be too.  Total crap!  I dunno how they could make such a good 9mm mag then FUBAR a .45 mag.  I feel sorry for the troops who got issued those!

Charging_Handle, if you don't mind my asking where did you find the SA mags for the HiPower?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Biggun,

Go to www.cdnninvestments.com and check out the selection of mags there. Some such as the SA 17 rd Hi-Power can bought on sale at this time. For those who may be interested I will post some of their inventory and prices that I consider to be a good deal:

South African Mil Browning Hi-Power 17 rd mag = $19.99 each.

Browning Hi-Power 9mm 10 rd blue Mec-Gar mags = $14.99 each

Browning Hi-Power .40 S&W 10 rd blue Mec-Gar mags = $14.99 each

Ruger P-89/94/95 9mm 10 rd nickel Mec-Gar mags = sale $9.99 each

Beretta 92F 9mm 15 round Asian military contract = $28.99 each

Beretta 96 .40 S&W 10 rd blue Mec-Gar magazine = sale $14.99 each

Glock 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 factory 10 round drop-free mags = $15.99 each

Smith and Wesson 59 series 9mm 10 rd nickel Mec-Gar mags = sale $9.99 each

Colt 1911 .45 ACP 8 rd w/pad stainless Chip McCormick mags = $12.99 each

Colt 1911 .45 ACP 8 rd blue Mec-Gar magazine = $8.99 each

Those are some pretty darn good prices on some of those mags. They have a bunch of other stuff there as well for other pistols as well and even rifles, although their rifle selection doesn't have much that interests me. I will copy this and paste it to a new post on this forum where everyone can see it. You never know when someone would like to add a few new mags to their collection. Hope these help you out.
