So when you buy your suppressor new, how much should the how process with the paperwork and fingerprints realistically cost?  If the dealer offers to do everything but the sheriff sign off part and passport photos, should they charge a fee?

No they shouldnt, Without the paperwork they cannot sell you anything. So it should be free or at least wrapped into the cost of the Can.

My dealer charges $50.  I wish they didn't but being an NFA dealer costs money so I deal with it.  Above that and the cost of the can, my sheriff charges $10 for fingerprints, instant photos at Walgreens are around $10 too, then there is that $200 thing.  So, my last can was $335 but ends up costing close to $650.

Yeah, I bought an Outback II today, and the total dealer charge beyond the cost of the can was 50 as well.  They do the BATF fingerprints and take care of all the federal stuff for you.  The photos and CLEO fingerprints/sign-off is something I have to do myself.  I guess no one allows you to send them in the mail and mail them back.  I have to go downtown in person AND pick them up in person.  I think that's a PITA.  Aside from that, I still need the thread work.

Overall, around 700 dollars I suppose.  I'm not sure how much the cost of the threading will be, but I assume around 130?  Once I get it in my hands I'll be happier.  Just a difficult process.  I can see why people get LLC's, but I can't see myself ever getting anything else Class III in the near future.

That's funny.

My Sheriff will mail the signed forms.  I left an addressed stamped envelope with my forms and he mailed them back.  I'm an hour away so that was very nice. Did you ask?  Obviously you have to drop them off in person and get your prints taken anyway.

How would you get finger print cards done by mail?

No the dealer should not charge a fee, he should also mow your grass for a year, just because you the customer was so nice to come into the shop and keep him from getting stuff done for half a day while you talked about stuff that interests you.

if you buy your can from your local C3 dealer then he shouldn't charge you any extra (but he might and if he does then its your call) . if you buy one out of state then him charging a transfer fee is normal.

I know ETS gives a pretty good dealer pricing as does YHM , AAC ,and Gemtec . thats where your dealer makes his money.

You misunderstood.  I was referring to the sheriff mailing them back after the approval.  I already had the federal prints done at the dealer.
