As soon as I get some Christmas purchases paid off, my next step with my soon to be built PSL will be to get the muzzle fitted with a can mount.  Do I need to thread the muzzle to attach a suppressor mounting muzzle device or can I leave it straight and just pin it on?  If it needs to be threaded, I know it's a thinner barrel than most 7.62 profiles, so would it be threaded as 1/2x28 or would it be standard as 5/8 x24?

What threads might be there are usually:

1) some odd metric pattern and possibly left handed and

2) not necessarily concentric.

Is there a shop in your state that could check it for concentricity for you?

It is ak Threading.  14mmx1 LH

Yankee hill has an QD mount that fits.

If your going to thread it, if the the barrel is thick enough to do 5/8x24 as most 7.62 cans are this size.

Does having the can on help cool the barrel faster since it adds more mass and surface area?  And does it help tune the harmonics and other things to make it more accurate?

You are taking all of that energy that is normally emitted as sound and converting it to heat so the suppressor gets really hot. The barrel probably just gets a little bit hotter. As far as harmonics go it will settle things down a bit due to the weight and if your lucky you might tighten the groups up a bit. Most people won't notice anything but a small shift in POI. My AK had threads that were fine but a lot of people have trouble with the factory threads so I'd have them checked out.

I'd suggest going with a Shark or Fisher SEI suppressor...or any other model that can be disassembled since most all 54r is corrosive.

I suppose I could stick with non corrosive ammo when shooting suppressed, perhaps handloads.

Opposite, really.  Suppressors throw a lot of junk, gas & heat back into the gun, and you will notice it as gas in your face and dirt all over cartridges in the mag (not to mention spent cases).
