Regards to Goat Boy who I met at SHOT Show.

Don R???  Where were you???

Guys:

We've been busy working up a new website on a crash basis and it's now ready for prime time viewing. There's more to add in the weeks ahead, but a good deal of it is now there.

And, under "Jim's Links" you'll find the AR15.com Forum is prominently listed. So expect some guests... and then some members. Make 'em welcome, as I expect you always do.

The most important part of this message is the revised e-mail address for me. I'm not too many days away from losing the E-Mail address that is all over the internet: "[email protected]" That is an "alias" e-mail address that forwarded to me. That one is going away for reasons we may get into here later on.

The message is... anything you might do to get the new e-mail out and copied into address books and what have you would be very helpful, before the old address starts bouncing messages. Please do what you can with this piece of business.

And have a look at www.JimScoutten.com and give me a little feedback on how you like cars and guns in one location, and on what's not yet there that needs to be posted. I'm looking for links of all kinds. You're invited to e-mail suggestions, or post what you think here and I'll gather 'em up. Come to think of it, e-mail would be better so I don't miss anything when I'm out of town.

Regards,

Jim Scoutten

Matt:

I've just learned of a new offer from Dish Network for NRA members that is a killer deal compared to what I paid to wire my house with Dish.

I'm going to post the offer on the site when I check it out with the folks at the NRA.

It could be your time,

Jim

Looks great Jim.  Just remember to update some parts of it often as some websites (even those with a weekly tv show) can get old fast and people lose interest and don't return.

Absolutely.

And we plan to add a lot of stuff yet.  Just enough there now to be respectable going public.

But, I've got about 6 years of car and gun scripts in my hard drive.  For those who want to know what we said when... We'll be working on posting a lot of old reference material from all those shows.

And then gathering links to make the site useful if you're looking for something.

There's no commercial purpose.  The banners are all from friends.  The real purpose is setting up reliable communications as some other e-mail connections get pulled.

The one thing I DON'T want from you is help with the driving... after getting a look at your signature photo!

BTW:  We just fixed some screwed up links that may have kept you from finding the "Leading Forums" where AR15 is posted.

Jim's Links / Gun Links is now working if you want a look.

I have been wanting to ask you for a while.
I went to Ann Arbor for law school. Them guys in A2 hate, and I mean hate, on command of the left wing of the dem party.
Have you had any attacks or other problems from the locals?
Have the cops or the county prosecutor tried to get you somehow?
How do you survive?

Hey Jim,
We just got Dish a few weeks ago, and I caught American Shooter this weekend (at it's prescribed time no less!!) and literally woke up my wife (on accident) when the "black rifle segment" on the FN FAL came on.  Awesome!  Too bad it was so short!  I had caught your show a couple other times on TNN, and I don't believe you did a "black rifle segment" then.

The wheelgun shooting by Jerry Miculek was mind blowing.  I really enjoyed the long segment with Rob Leatham too, I will be putting that to use in IDPA.  It seemed that is a weekly segment?

Great job!  I plan on being a weekly viewer for sure!!!  Thanks for a great show.  It goes by too fast though!!!

Rob's teaching a segment every other week of this season, which gives you time to go practice each lesson before the next one.

Jim

PS:  You can check the series on the American Shooter website in the Special Features section.

Man I just love that American Shooter show.  I just ditched my cable and went to satalite dish so I could get The Outdoor Channel and OLN neither of which were offered by my sorry cable company.  Well, I also wanted the Nascar I was missing because I did'nt have Speed Channel either :D

Anyway, keep up the good work.  Nice to see the shooting sports on mainstream TV.

Rifleman is going to hate this:

Here's the offer for discounted Dish Network from the NRA:

Dear NRA Supporter:

It isn't news to anyone who enjoys the outdoors that the major television networks simply ignore our interests. Shooting, hunting, and outdoor shows are few and far between or are aired when most of us are asleep.

To fix this problem, we used the buying clout of the NRA's more than four million members and have worked out a great deal for NRA Members on satellite TV from DISH Network. With DISH Network, you get channels like The Outdoor Channel, Outdoor Life, and ESPN2 in full digital quality and at rates that are typically less than cable.

And the installation of up to four receivers, all the equipment you'll need to get started, and the first three months programming package is free*.

For information on this fantastic offer, go to 216.200.88.89/nra.html or call us toll-free at 800-480-9841.

Warmest regards,

Wayne LaPierre
Executive Vice President

PS:  You will need the "America's 150" package to get OLN, but the deal here is NO equipment costs. Lot less than I paid to get Dish for my household. ---Jim

Just got a letter from my cable provider, the fiber is in place and I can go digital shortly. This will allow me to get OLN finally. I really do miss the American Shooter show and look forward to viewing again.

I wanted to get a satellite television service for some time now and with the NRA offer, I have just ordered the Dish Network America's Top 150 package along with the local station add-on.
Thank you Jim for letting us on this great offer. Now I can watch American Shooter once again along with other great programs!

Hey Jim, is there anyway to get a tape with all 5 of the Rob Lathem 1911 lessons? I have been watching the show, and reviewed the stuff on the American Shooter website, but man I would love to have a tape just showing the 1911 stuff. I am new to shooting a 1911 and cant seem to hit a damn thing with one! I can shoot all of my Glocks great but I can't seem to transition to the 1911.

I think I'm in the process of putting a program together with Springfield (Rob's primary sponsor) that will have us producing an extended series of his lessons for distribution on tape. If that deal is going to go together I should know something before the end of the month.

In the meantime, the quickest fix Rob applied to my shooting was fixing my grip on the 1911. It needs to be higher on the gun than what at first seems comfortable. And that's probably why you can hit with your Glocks and not with the 1911.  The Glocks don't have as much leverage on your grip because the bore is designed to be lower relative to the web of your grip hand.

Two answers:  OLN Canada has gone silent on me after the last discussion when I asked if they had any network restrictions up there on handgun advertisers.  She said she'd check on that and I haven't heard a word since.

As far as the new site, the erosion of the American Shooter site has begun today.  If you check it out you'll notice there's a bunch of stuff missing or just messed up.  The new web contractor is taking it over and so far screwing it up... so we're hoping the JimScoutten.com site can carry some of the missing info, even though it will never be promoted on TV.

Jim,
Great site! Me and my boy watch it every sunday.
Not that it has anything to do with you, but last week the sound was on a nearly 2 second delay from the video broadcast! Drove me nuts! Of course I watched it anyway. Any chance of these shows being released on video/dvd?
Keep up the great work!!!

Here's News:

I'm surprised to discover OLN likes the shows so much that they are going to re-run the series of 13 that just ended this weekend... one more time on Saturday mornings at 10:00 AM EST (7:00AM PST).

That's in addition to starting the "Best of American Shooter" series of 13 shows in the usual time slots: Friday at 8:30PM and 11:30PM Eastern Time... Sunday at 8:00AM EST.

So, I guess you have one more time to try to catch all of Rob Leatham's lessons on tape, but now on Saturdays... and then the cycle of best of stories that will seem new to many of you.

OLN has the highlights posted at:
www.olntv.com/fsTV_1362.cfm

(Notice when you get there that the subject is linked to pull down a short write-up of what's in each show.)

Catch any combination of all that and you've got an hour of American Shooter a week.

Jim, I'm life member of the NRA but who are they trying to fool?  That is the exact package any Joe can buy.  It was an offer Dish Network ran through March and it may even still be going on.  There is a $49. activation fee which Wayne did'nt say anything about in his letter but I doubt waving your NRA card around will get the $49. activation fee waived.  Just an FYI

Now a quote from the offer for NRA Members:

Call 1-800-480-9841 or Order Online and pay NOTHING upfront. Because you are a supporter of the NRA, you will receive system delivery, free Standard Professional Installation and the first three months of the Digital Home Plan package PLUS No Activation Fee.

I'll tell you again, it's a very good deal.

Mr. Scoutten,

Any word yet on any new episodes of A.S.?  I'm a little nervous that OLN may be having second thoughts.  Especially since I don't see S&W & Benelli running their commercials on the re-runs.

Please let me know.

No, nothing yet firmed up.  I'm due for a meeting with the production company shortly to find out what they are thinking.

OLN is quite happy with the audience and the sponsors.  Smith and Benelli spots are supposed to be appearing in each show, but there's some kind of screw up at the level of the sales department ordering the insertion of the spots.

So the good news is OLN is happy.  The bad news is... there isn't yet a plan for new shows.
