Our department is starting an active shooter policy.  Here is what I want to build.  There is a 5.11 chest rig that I have taken intrest in.  Here is what I need to know and if anyone has this setup I would like to see a photo of it.  I need the chest rig to hold two double stacked M4 magazines and a glock 21 magazine on both sides of the the M4 magazines.  Also this chest rig has a map compartment on the reverse side does anyone know if small ballistic panels will fit in this pocket?  Also as I would need to say but the color is black that I need.  No surprise there.

I don't know what 511 rig you're talking about without some more details or a link.

For what you're talking about though the Tactical Tailor mini MAV would do everything you want, and is made in the USA.

Mini MAV

Check it out.  You could set this up a few different ways for an active shooter rig.  2 to 3 AR mags, and a few pistol mags.  Practical tactical doesn't appear to have it in black, but i'm pretty sure they make it in black.

Thats what the 5.11 looks like.  Looks like everything is the same

It'll be simpler, and cheaper, to use a doubke G21 pouch to the side of the M4 pouch, instead of two singles.

I have my active shooter setup built on a OSOE micro rig, about the same size as the mini-mav.

Here's a few other options that aren't really mainstream yet, but they look like some badass designs.  Scroll down to the active shooter rig.  $50 bucks, and looks like it would be perfect for your setup.

BASTRD

It looks like this might be an interesting way to go as I would imagine it's easier to throw on versus a chest rig.  The pouches in the picture aren't included, but you could have a few rifle and pistol mags plus a small blowout kit.

Here is what I recently built to carry in my squad car right next to my rifle for an active shooter response:

Tactical Tailor 2 Piece MAV
TT Multi-tool pouch
TT Small utility pouch for cuffs
HSGI Bleeder/Blowout for medical gear
Custom TT Red Cross/Blood-type patch
TT Modular Velcro Panel + Police Patch
TT Joey Hydration Pouch

Nice part about the TT MAV or any other modular chest rig is that you can customize it to meet your specific needs/mission. What works for my purposes may not work for you. My major goals with this particular rig was to stay readily identifiable as a law enforcement officer, carry extra rifle ammunition which is not readily available on my duty belt, and carry medical gear to use on others or to be used on me if I was unfortunate enough to catch rounds.

I really hate to ask when its equipment we need for the job but what did that setup cost you?  I noticed you didn't have a handcuff case though.

So far its probably at around the $200 -250 range. I have been putting it together slowly so its hard to remember exactly. The square type pouch, between the medical kit and multi-tool pouch, holds two sets of extra cuffs. This means I would have 4 sets on me because I have two on my duty belt. I wanted to have them up front for quicker access as opposed to reaching around for the ones on my duty belt, because speed may be a necessity. I have been thinking about weaving some ASP trifolds into the extra couple of webbing rows on my right side. I still need to find a bladder for my hydration pouch so that will add another $25 to the overall cost.

As a side note this setup works great with my SBR and single point sling setup. It all rides very comfortably.

Not bad at all.  Sounds like a good tax write off.  Tactical Taylor you said?  I will have to check that out.  Your SBR is that department issued of did you build it yourself?  Our new policy is going to let us who own our own ar's will be able to bring them into service in the case of a active shooter.  As long as the ar is certain brand and qualified with.

Yes almost all of it is Tactical Tailor, with the exception of the Bleeder/Blowout Medical kit which is HSGI. Tactical Tailor is great to deal with and they have taken care of me every step of the way. My contact has been Andy. I wish I could take more credit for the idea for this setup but a member of Weapon Evolution gave me the idea and I built one to suit my needs. Heres a link to the thread that would definitely be worth reading:

As for my SBR, it is my personal weapon that I am allowed to use on duty. I just had to attend rifle school and I qualify with it twice a year along with my duty pistol. I am lucky enough to be on a department that allows us to modify our weapons to fit us, instead of going with the cookie cutter approach and requiring them to be the same. I don't have to deploy it too often, but even knowing it's there gives me some peace of mind.

Do they offer free shipping to ARFCOM members?  Do they answer all your questions over the phone even the stupid ones  ?Do they offer a great customer service overall? Have you deal with Charles at Blackstone Tact? Where in you post is your contribution to the OP question? Not saying that the the other site sponsors and industry partners are not good to deal with them, but Charles is one of the good guys in my book.

To the OP :
First think about what exactly do you want/need do you want a active shooter set up that you can grab ,put it on and continue without taking too much time? ( IMO unless you are a member of the special response unit or whatever they call it that's what an active shooter set up should accomplish . Or do you want a plate carrier that will offer ballistic protection but will sacrifice mobility and speed? Getting both things in the same package is going to be hard .If you want light check the MAV or mini MAV. if you have your mind set on plates consider something like THIS to throw over your ballistic vest.
And BTW whatever your decision is consider getting it from Charles at Blackstone Tactical you will not be disappointed.
