Just got a greek rack grade form the CMP and the reciever moves a little while seated in the stock. It only moves about 1/16th of an inch but it is noticable. Any suggestions for repair?

Here is a pick - my lab is a camera hog:

2 options:

1. Glass bed the stock, problem solved, but the gun will not be legal for some "as issued" garand matches.

2. Get a boyd's stock from Midway.  On sale now for about $80

A loose stock will soon crack, first crack will be near the clip latch, then you will get one neat the front of the trigger group.

Thanks for your response. I already checked out the Boyd's stock at Midway - I will be replacing the front handguard as well, so I might just replace the hole thing.

If you enjoy working the wood, you can buy an un finished Boyd directly from the factory.

I got one from Midway, and didn't like the finish.  They (factory) wipe the stock down with black die, then put some kind of psudo oil finish on it.  I stripped, sanded and then used tung oil.  MUCH better IMHO.

Where can I get Tung oil? Will places like Home Depot or Lowes have it?

If you just want a M1 for a shooter, look at Ram lines  synthetic stock about 50.00. I really like the way the one I have on one of my Garands feels, and the rubber recoil pad makes it even more pleasant to shoot.

I found tung oil at an independant hardware store, ace or true value, can't remember.  Got it 12 years ago, a little goes a long way.
