If your laser is double tap capable then it can be constant, but the light is momentary

A blurb I am very happy to announce. The new connectors are so overdue!

TAPS SYNC also introduces numerous other small improvements and upgrades that have also been integrated into the TAPS Standard as well, (some of you have probably seen this already) including a new and improved Crane-style connector which features a more universally accepted stem that more solidly seats in ports from L3Harris (Insight/EOTech), Steiner, B.E. Meyers, and Wilcox. The outer portion of the connector also features a recess that increases purchase with fingers during removal.

The Surefire style connector has also been improved, with an angled plug that pushes the cable back towards the weapon. This decreases the overall “footprint” of cable/connector on the back of the light, reducing snag hazards.

This is amazing. Plugs have been huge issues for years and I feel like its been ignored entirely. I may actually buy a TAPS now.

Thanks, yes an incredible and unfortunate afterthought! We pleaded with BOTH manufacturers to make long overdue changes and both did not see a need for their products, so we made the changes needed to overcome the shortcomings. In itself, a solution that overcomes any current issues with cables popping out in recoil, shaving off stem housings, etc.

We have made a bunch for some contract orders with TAPS Standard. We can offer then if there is a need.

Hi Type7SOT.  The Sync is non-programmable like the TAPS PRO was, thus it does not utilize a battery and is set to function by each particular variant.

For the PM's and emails..The new TAPS "PLUS" is set for release 1st QTR 2020 and will require a battery like the PRO did.   We will have details in the near future for this unit.

It does not, see my above post. These units are the ones who have a 2032 battery on board.  Not the SYNC.  There was some confusion with the older TAPS Pro and the new TAPS Plus coming out per Sam's response vs. the SYNC, my fault not catching this early in the thread.

The Visible Override will function if you plug a lead into it, so you could potentially rig the remote switch so that it activates the light and light + VIS laser, and simply use the onboard fire button when you want the laser-only, or laser in IR mode.

IMHO, that would be a better solution that a Y-cable anyways, because the TAPS would control all visible functions, while it would require a different action/control to access IR.

Thanks for the feedback and glad you like the changes! Yes, the cables are a HUGE improvement over the standard OEM's.  

It means that they are in stock and ready to ship.

"Can be backordered" means just that, that even when they are "out of stock," you will still be able to place a backorder.

Unity is cranking these out by the hundreds right now and shipping them as fast as they can, so we have them in stock and are expecting more to come in.

Which DBAL-I2 do you have? IR/VIS or IR/IR?

IMHO, the TAPS SYNC in the V1 (or V3, depending on how you're mounting it and which ends the leads are facing) is perfect for something like the DBAL-A3 with a VIS override:



The TAPS system does not need to be the only device activation solution you use, that is to say, it doesn't make the onboard "FIRE" button on your laser stop working, and under most circumstances, my strong preference is for using the onboard "FIRE" button with the laser rather than a remote switch to use the laser only--conversely, because I tend to prefer placement of my light on the outboard side of the weapon, they almost always use a remote switch.

The point of things like the TAPS are to better integrate your "switchology" and device control placement, but ultimately they still need to follow some sort of logic, whatever that is, and again, things like the TAPS allow you to place those controls where you want them how you want them, not "wherever you can put them" as has been the case with many less than ideal device control solutions.

Most of the time for a fighting gun, I recommend having a dedicated white light that is only white light--I like things like the Surefire Vampire-series for some applications, but in particular, I'm not a fan of them for long guns, because often if you want white light, you want it "RTFN."

Given that, for me I have most of my carbines set up where the remote switch controls the white light, i.e., visible functions, while IR functions are controlled on the device itself--the control types and interfaces are very different and located in different places, reducing my chances of accidentally using WL when I want IR or vice versa.

With the TAPS SYNC and DBAL-A3, I can retain that "logic," the remote switch will always activate my white light, and the device will "always" activate IR lasers, while simultaneous activation button controls the VIS override laser + white light (placed to the rear, as it would be less common). You could also do this with a non-VIS override laser, but with the laser switched VIS mode.

With devices other than the DBAL-A3 without a VIS override, and especially for LE/mil using full power Class IIIB lasers, if you use the simultaneous activation button with the laser switched to IR mode, it can still do damage--both to yourself and others that you may not be aware of, so it's definitely something you need to be extremely conscious of and cognizant of. Again, if you want the laser only, you can always use the onboard fire button.
