Hi Everyone,

I rarely visit this section, but I need help.

A friend of mine is moving and gave me this level IV plate. He said he purchased it from this website, and from what I can gather, it is this piece http://www.interamer.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=127

Here are the pics:

As I am unfamiliar with body armor, the most gear I own consist of chest rigs for classes, I want to know if I should keep it or think about selling it. Since this is only one plate, if I keep it, would I need a rear plate?

Any information/advice about the plate and what I should do with it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I would keep it. if you ever go the armor route, you are half way there. you could always get a 'cheaper' steel plate
for the back.

and with 'ban paranoia', some think armor might be next.

Thanks for the reply. I also thought of some other questions.

Do plates have expiration dates? Do they deteriorate over time? How long can I keep this and know it is still reliable.

Also, are these level IV standalone plates just inserted into plate carriers and used without soft armor?

CPC makes some of the best plates out there.  I believe they got bought out or merged with another company.

Based on that model # (TC4C) your plate is a 10x12 Level 4 Stand Alone plate / Triple Curve weighing at 6.5 lbs.   Its a great plate, I'd def keep it.

Thanks TakeDown. I guess I will need to look for a plate carrier and rear plate for this. Any recommendations?

Phew, that's a tough one on the PC...it all depends on what you're gonna use it for.    I use and love Eagle gear so I'm kinda biased towards that.  I use the Eagle LE PC for work as an active shooter rig.  I also have the Eagle PC w/ CB and the new SKD PIG PC....not much to say except that I love it and it works for me.

As many here would say, as long as you stick with the BIG DOGS you'll be fine  (Eagle, HSGI, Tactical Tailor, Emdom, EssTac, ATS, EGL, and a few other that I can't think of now).

As for the plates, I got mines directly from CPC back then, and let me tell ya it was cheaper a few years ago.  I also got a set from SKD Tactical.   I'd order from a company just so that you'll have peace of mind knowing they're gtg.   HTH

Stay away from DBT.  Great service... but their FAPC needs a redesign IMO.

ETA: As you are not the original owner, you might want to think about getting that plate x-rayed.
