Thanks for the info.

Are these available for purchase by the public?  Or does Gunsite have them just for customer use.

To be honest I'm guessing that this is one of Gunsite's rifles; it appears to be, but as I cannot access Gunsite's actual web-site from here at work I cannot be certain. I was able to find this link which slipped past our Barracuda filter here which may provide you with some information on Cooper's scout rifle concept: pw2.netcom.com/~chingesh/scoutrifle.html

May be of some help,

mike

eta - good pic of Mister Jeff Cooper and his scout rifle here: pw2.netcom.com/~chingesh/SteyrScout.html

YES, you can buy one.

Is Gunsites different from the Styer Scout or is a modified version?  I thought it was a Styer on first look, came out in 7.62x51 maybe 6-8 years ago.

ETA:

Never mind, went for lunch with the reply screen open came back and was beaten to the line.

I agree, unless he was shooting that group from way far away.

I would venture to guess that that picture is from Gunsite's Practical hunting Rifle course. In that course, the idea isn't to put every shot into the same hole, but to make effective hits on game from irregular positions, distances and angles. Not a "sniper" course. Therefore, it's not about your groups. Kill zone on a lot of game is quite large. Is it really that easy to arm chair quarterback based on simply a picture?

An yes, that's a Steyr Scout designed by/with Jeff Cooper.

Being unfamilar with the course of fire/class that he might be attending in that pic I just looked at the 3 neck shots (my preferred POA on bambi as I hate spoiling the meat) and then all the others and made a personal observation.

Given your explanation of the type of class it probably was his groups makes much more sense now. Sorry if I offended ya - is that you in the picture....

mike

ps - while the vast majority of the guys rounds would have no doubt dropped bambi in his tracks, just thought of messing up all that tenderloin and backstrap would bum me out to no end.....

It's not me in the picture. But ya, just get tired of everyone arguing about groups when many people only ever sit at a bench and shoot.

It's a Steyer Scout.

CDNN Investments had some at a good price in their latest catalog. They might all be gone by now.
