7.62x39mm at top, .450 Bushmaster (as yet, unfired) below.

It's primarily a plinker, hence the RDS, a Burris Fastfire III.
A)20rd mini-30 mags that I bought for it fit nice and tight, and feed perfectly.
B)The trigger was excellent as-is (light, smooth feel), and I didn't fool with it.
C)The bolt was decent but not great, and it needs to be worked like you mean it; it'll smooth out though, I'm sure.

My initial impression: Holy hell, this gun is fun to shoot! 2 20-rd mags isn't enough, so I ordered some more while the range went cold. On the plus side, you can get the barrel hot as hell, with no noted effect on accuracy. Just enough recoil to feel like you're shooting a "real" gun, and throws a muzzle flash sure to impress. I did have one rimfire shooter bitch about how loud it was, though.

100yd zero target
The first group on paper is the one low & left. Yeah...was sort of assing around and kinda rushed that one.
The second 5-rd group includes the two flyers (both called). The 3rd group, all 5 rounds clustered with the 3 "good" rounds from the second group.
Tula 122grn fmj was the ammo used.

Did I mention how much fun this gun is to shoot? Because DAMN, this thing is fun to shoot!

ETA: I'm seriously thinking about getting the .223/5.56 version that takes AR mags; then, I'd have "sm, med, & lg" covered.

I want a 762x39 so bad but it’s almost like ruger set out to design the ugliest stock they could. I’m all in when I can get it in wood or at least black without the tiger stripes.

I agree, mine is a blast to shoot. I think I will get one of the 5.56 models as well.

Y'all aren't making this any easier
I'm trying to hold out for sub $400 including FFL fees before I get one

Mine shoots great.

123 and 150’s

When it gets warmer, and I get time, I think I have 5 or 6 different rounds from tula, wolf, brown bear, and golden tiger. I will shoot for groups and see how each does.

Try this for a color change...thinking a wallpaper dip tray might work.

I love mine as well, currently sporting a 3x9 scope! I agree it has just enough recoil to let you know you are shooting something, great ergo's, mags are great, light and handy. It's usually at the ready in my garage for the lone coyote that gets near my place.

What kind of mount/optic would be ideal?
Thanks Huck

I would think a 3-9 or a 2-7 would be perfect, depends on what you want to do with it or what you have laying around

Installed a Primary Arms 1x6-24 with ACSS reticle in Primary Arms low rings...it’s calibrated for 7.62x39/300blk bullet drop.

Have you mic's the bore yet? Is it a true .310" 7.62x39, or just another .308" chambered for 7.62x39?

I haven't; I'm completely satisfied with it's accuracy, and see no reason to.

How I spent my Tuesday morning...

It is .310 according to Ruger.
I really like the American series, I have a predator in .308, shoots as nice as the x39.
I took 120 grit paper, slid it down the barrel to make sure it was not touching the stock. I "shimmed" the sandpaper with 4 1 dollar bills, as I went along. I really don't want to add a heavy laminated stock to it, that would defeat my favorite part, the lightweight handy feel. This rifle is capable of better accuracy that I can produce in the stock configuration. Just make sure the barrel is floating, easy as pie, takes less than 30 minutes.

Form 1 just sent off for mine . I’ll be cutting to 12.5” and running a Q half Nelson . Gonna be a sweet deer stand / tree stand setup .

Do they make a youth stock for the 7.62x39?

I’m assuming you went with low rings? Or medium? I’m putting a 1-4 on mine as well.
