FYI, I was sniffing around the store on Springfield Armory's website and came across SAR 4800 mags in the M1A section (bottom of the mags page under M1A).  They're on sale for $13.30 each right now, so I thought what the hell and ordered a few.  Got them last night, opened the box today during lunch.  Appear to be new Israeli FAL mags with the black finish, Hebrew markings, and parked followers packed in the cosmoline and brown paper.

Are they really "new" like brand new never loaded? If so that is about the best deal going. I have enough and Im shifting to another AR build or else Id jump on it.

the website says the mags will only work with the sar, is that accurate?

The SAR is an Imbel FAL marketed by Springfield in the late 80s and early 90s. ETA:  Pretty sure the reason Springfield has that note on their is that theses mags are listed under the M1A section and they just don't want anyone buying these thinking they're for the M1A.

Mags appear to be brand new and unused, though the packing slip reads "used excellent."  My guess is they bought them by the bulk load way back when as surplus so they just call them used excelllent like DSA did with the parked STG mags.

ETA:  They come in four packs smothered in cosmoline and wrapped in brown wax paper with a packing slip in Hebrew.  Mine has a 1977 date code on it, so I'm going to bet they're unused, just real old stock.

Well crap.

SA will not send them to NY state because they are hi-cap

We have the old Fed AWB, and if the mags were made prior to 94' then they are Preban and good to go.

I mean really, these mags were made probably in the late 1970's

Their website even specifically says that those mags are "Legal Under Crime Bill."

Have you tried calling them to ask?

Yup, had a nice 20 minute call with Vickie Lawrence, a Customer Service Manager. She said it was the lawyers "upstairs" () that have said no to ANY preban hi-cap mags to NY State. She then sent this gem of an email to me.

SA has gone Full Retard. I'm small potatoes for them, but my money is as green as someone's in PA, VA, or OH and its completely legal and with the economy like it is, I'd surely want all the business I could get for my companies bottom line...

F––k Springfield Armory. I was looking at getting a SA EMP 1911 for my wife for CCW purposes. Not any more.

Screw it, I ordered. four of them.

Interesting that the check out states "This is currently the only shipping method available to use on this order" and offers three UPS only options yet the e-mail confirmation states they're coming via FedEx.

BTW I went on DSA's web site after asking here, and where the used mags are they say they are out, but they are coming out with some made by them in 20/25/30 rounds. Hopefully they will run good.

They had some feeding/feed lip issues per some reviews over on FAL Files.

I was cleaning out some files today and I found an invoice from DSA, for $6 Steyr mags

And I constantly read of guys waiting 6-8 months for one of DSA's rifles, and have seen more than a couple bitch about issues with them.  I see decent deals on FALs all over the place....why wait 8 months (and pay hundreds more) for something that won't operate any better than a well put-together kit?  Should probably be prepared to get roasted for those comments, but I honestly don't get it.

No kidding.  I put together an STG-58 before I knew what I was doing, and it is all I could want in a rifle.  Accurate, headspace good, function perfect.  How could a factory rifle be better?

The four I ordered just showed up. Condition is as described in the original post. If these are used they put them in guns made of cotton and down feathers.

Cleaned the outside of one off real quick and it fits perfectly in both of my DSA rifles. No time for a range visit today to function test.

They are Israeli Metric mags (I just got a dozen in the mail yesterday) so YES they will work in your STG58

Also, if they'd ever been issued to anyone, I'll eat my hat.

You aren't getting fucked, and certainly not by Springfield.  If you want to blame anyone, blame your state lawmakers and the twats who elected them.  Quite frankly, although it's a bummer for you guys, I don't blame any vendor who won't ship to NYwith that asshat Bloomberg and some of his shenanigans.

Bloomberg is the Mayor of NYC, he doesn't have any authority outside of his fiefdom.

The same asshats that brought us the NY AWB were of the same mindset of the US Legislature that brought EVERYONE the FEDERAL AWB from 94'-04'. You guys lucked out that you had a sunset provision on the Fed ban and that your respective states didn't take it as far as getting a State ban that mirrors the Federal Law like NY did back then.
And I mean luck, pure gosh darn luck of the draw that your State Legislature didn't push for their own state ban, because very few people did didilly shit for working to stop the Fed AWB from passage and had your State's ridden on the tide of popular views back then in late 93' to early 94' and passed a State AWB you'd be in the same boat as us.

You're naively mistaken if you think he has no influence outside NYC.  He has sent detectives to conduct investigations and harass gun businesses in other states.  I personally know two such businesses in South Carolina that were under lawsuit for years by the City of NY while he tried to put them out of business.

As for luck, not really.  This year, citizens in my current state, Virginia, elected a pro-2nd Governor who previously as the State AG stopped Bloomberg's antics in our state; as well as a pro-2nd Deputy Gov, AG, and other legislators.  If you think this is by luck, you're again mistaken, it's by the will of a majority of citizens who don't want fooilish laws restricting their rights.

LOL, I'm not naive, I'm well aware of what he has tried in Virginia as well as some other Southern-Eastern Seaboard states, and he has gotten his little bitty pee-pee smacked for overstepping his bounds in regards to illegal straw purchases incurring the "interest" of the BATFE.

As far as his lawsuits, they are frivolous and everyone anywhere is open to such non-sense. Anyone can pretty much be sued for pretty much anything. Because he throws about BS CIVIL lawsuits in other states doesn't mean he has arrest authority or anyway to legally detain or arrest anyone outside of his fiefdom, He has zero authority outside NYC and your just playing into his tyrants attitude by propogating the notion of him having influence outside NYC.

Quick heads up for you guys who have not dealt with the Izzy mags before. That cosmoline is pretty thick on the INSIDE of the mags also. FWIW, I've always taken the mags apart and sprayed them good with aerosol brake cleaner,(1 can will do about 10 mags) wiped off the springs and toothbrushed the inner bodies and followers where needed. Let them dry, then I coat the springs and inside with a VERY light coat of CLP.

I'll tell the guys I know who have spent many thoudsands of dollars fighting his lawsuits that you said they're frivalous and that he doesn't have any influence anywhere outside of NYC.

The bottom line is, it's not worth the potential hassles for most businesses to deal with customers in NY and other "ban" states.  I don't like it either, but I also don't blame them.

Got mine in last Tuesday, 7 days after I ordered, look to be never issued. They were wrapped in wax paper and cosmoline.

Braved the cold this morning (well, cold for TENN.) and put 200 rounds through the 7 I bought, no problems at all. They fell free clean and smooth when empty, and no FTF or FTE problems. I plan on ordering 10 more if they still have them.

Getting the cosmo off was a bit tedious but well worth it.

All 8 have the Hebrew markings unlike the first 6 I got that had an IMI logo on the package but no markings on the mags.

Can anyone translate the Hebrew?
