I have a chance to buy an MP40. WWII production receiver with some non-matching parts. Overall good condition but has the scratches and patina of a 80+ year old gun taken from the losers. It runs flawless. I got to run over 100 rounds through it.

What do you think something like that is worth today?

Anything I should pay particular attention to when I examine it again?

Thanks.

Between 25-30K for a shooter grade C&R MP40 would be my guess.

Check for how much stock wobble the gun has.  It's very common with them.  A little is normal.  Some guns have a lot.   Some guns also have rotational play between the receiver tube and the lower.  If that play is too much, it could twist to the point where the sear doesn't engage and the gun runs away.

OK, thanks. Good info. The asking price is in that range.

If it’s a little on the rougher side cosmetically, you need to be closer to $25k or it’s no deal. They seem to have gone a little nuts in the last couple big auctions, but a real nice c&R MP-40 sold at Morphys for like 24k including the buyers premium last October. I try to take RIA prices with a grain of salt as they’re always getting the most money.

Yeah, the gun I’m looking at is cosmetically a little rough for my liking. I’ll probably keep looking for a prettier gun.

Thanks, to all

Non-matching but C&R?

How many mags?  Any accessories, spare parts, or even a parts kit?

These days I’d be at $20k for a running C&R mixmaster.  If a Seller brings up auctions, remind them of auction expenses they won’t be forced to cover with a straight cash sale.

Add value accordingly for more mags, parts, accessories, or a parts kit.

I have one of these bolts / recoil spring assemblies in a matching #s MP40 and it runs OK.
Even in a non matching gun original bolts and firing pins are expensive to replace.

This is cheap insurance.

Pretty much all MP40s are well used.
If you find a non matching C+R gun at $25K that's about normal.
Very sweet gun to run. Impresses everyone.

If you use the FBP setup in your MP-40, I'd advise installing a set of Wolff MP-40 recoil springs.

Nothing like a 30rd runaway SMG to start off your range trip!
