So the weather babe just announced there is an upcoming total eclipse of the moon beginning Sunday around 11:15 PM central standard time. The moon will appear red.

Will this be a good time to play with NVG? I picked up a fantastic Harris L3WP filmless PVS14 from TNVC a few months ago and haven’t had much chance to play with it because it’s just too bright in town or there is too much of a moon out when I have time to go out to the family land to really get the most out of it.

What will this be like?

The eclipse is happening on the moon right?

It's a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow.

Every lunar eclipse I've witnessed was clearly visible with the naked eye. But a telescope is cool to use.

I cannot read this post without hearing total eclipse of the heart.

What I’m trying to ask is will there be a lot of ambient moonlight or just a little bit?

With the moon over 50% typically I see everything almost too well with the WP. The IR isn’t needed at all. A Surefire vampire (X300V?) pistol light is blinding.

The moon cycle is presently MUCH greater than 50%. I would imagine it would be as if there were no moon and I can see the full efficiency of the PVS but I’m fairly new to this.

It looks really cool but very bright.
