I would like to replace the newer, post WWII rear sight on my 1943 Garand with a correct type II lockbar sight.  My question is, do I have to replace the entire sight with a type II or just the pinion, elevation and windage knobs?  Can I keep and re-use the newer, post WWII base, cover spring and aperture, and will the lockbar pinion and knobs fit and function correctly if I do this?  I’ve seen people selling lockbar long pinion and knob sets minus the cover, base and aperture and I’m hoping this may be the case.  Also, can someone tell me what the difference between long and short pinion is and if this would be an issue in re-using the parts I already have?

If you are doing this to enhance the gun for YOUR benefit, cool.

If you sell it, I believe it only right to inform the buyer that it is not a 100% lock bar assembly.   Some will say it does not matter but a REAL collector will spot it from a mile away!

Ineedhelp,
Thanks for your reply, but it didn't address ANY of the questions I had in my post.  Your reply also seems to imply that I would want to unscrupulously try and sell this rifle passed off as an "original" after changing the sight, which is not the case.  FYI, I acquired my Garand as a collectable and not to use for a quick buck turn around in a sale...

Oh,  pardon me.....If you where asking if the parts would fit.

The answer is yes they will.
