So I've got my search for a light for my 870 w/ 18" barrel setup narrowed to two choices.
1) Mount a Streamlight TLR-1 to a Nordic barrel/mag tube clamp out near the end of the barrel and use the Streamlight remote coil switch.

(minus the bayonet, you get the idea)

2) Use the FAB fore end with rails and mount the TLR-1 to this.

I would prefer the fore end mounted light for simplicity sake but does the TLR-1 mounted to the fore end cast too much light and/or a shadow in the barrel?  Is the light in the way of a normal grip on the fore end?

Has anyone used the remote coil switch?  I'm leery about having a wire dangling off my HD shotgun.

Here is my vote:

No, it does not get in the way of my forearm use.  It does throw quite a shadow, but the TLR-1 has a lot of 'sidesplash.' If I am indoors, there is more than enough splash to see into the shadow.

I dont like coiled wires handing off any gun.  They get pulled and caught on just about everything and just adds more stress to the situation.

I hate pressure switches myself.  I would rather have that light on the forearm.  I prefer to have lights mounted on the right side as to no obstruct vision but I don't know about the shadow.  That's how I run with my carbines.  I think I am going to be stuck with a Surefire forearm.
