i think marlin has a lever .308 but it doesn't have a removable mag. remington makes a pump .308 with a removable mag though in case that is a reasonable alternative.

Honest recomendation get a enfield in 308. ..and call it fast.

enfields are great. if you are going to get a milsurp bolt gun for actual use there is nothing better. |

Winchester model 88 but that is out of your price range as well.

If you want an enfield I will make you a deal on a sporterized 308 . I own a Savage99 in 308 great gun !!!!

I have a Browning BLR. I like the 20" barrel, smooth action and a true detachable mag. It is a very handy rifle for hunting.
I just wish Browning would put a detach mag on their semi auto BAR instead of the stupid hinge plate  You might have to up your budget for one. I think I paid $400 for mine used. |
