How hard is it to change the complete front end on a L1A1?
any thing else important I should know about changing the front end?

Not difficult at all if you have the right tools.  You may need to adjust the headspace afterwards.

Heavy duty bench vise
Receiver wrench
Sizing rods and Headspace gages

Basically everything it takes to build one from the ground up since most of the assembly is getting the barrel mounted and aligned TDC.
