I know that Knights makes a RAS system but I know others do to.  Who else do you know of that makes them?  Where can I buy one.

 Rail systems similar to Knight?
DPMS, Bushmaster.  I think their price is reasonable.

I have the RAS from Knight.  Very easy to install.  No need to take the front sight off.

I believe they are in halves like the regular handguards.

markm,  my Knight's RAS is for my M4.  You install these 2 pieces same like you install your standard handguards. The larger piece ( has 3 rails ) will be install first on top (it should mark T, for top).  The smaller piece is installed on the bottom.  There should be a screw on top, I think, to hold the unit tighter.
HTH.

They are not free floating?

O.K., so you get the RAS, and 3 Rib panals for about $300.00.

I'm just not seeing why its so expensive.  if it were around a hundo i might go for it.

There are free-float and non free-float versions.

The "standard" version is just like a regular handguard except not plastic and after you attach them you actually clamp them down so they don't come off or move.  Takes about 10 minutes to install with only a hex wrench and no disassembly of the rifle.

The free-float version installs like any free floating AR tube and require "gunsmithing" work.  This version is also much more expensive.

As to why it costs so much: they are not plastic so its a bit of metal there.  Also, it gives you a ROCK SOLID mounting point for your accessories.  For example, I have a bipod mounted to a standard plastic handguard and it flexes so bad I'm afraid I'm going to snap it in two.  You won't see this with a RAS.

You have a stable mounting point for sights, lights, bipods, slings, forward grips, whatever that is as solid as (or very close to) the receiver itself.  Well worth the money if you have a use for it.  Then again, my wife has a different idea of what's "worth it" these days...

Is the "standard" (non-free floating) version still available?  Who sells them for the best price?  Thx.

I am still trying to figure out if regular RAS will fit 16" A2 (HBAR) as sold by Bushmaster, or if I have to use RIS.

I have been told yes, it will fit, and I have been told no, it won't fit, that is the point of the RIS.

Which is it?

This (the one on top) is a brand new Bushy M4 upper with a RAS (M5 I believe is the carbine model) on it.  Fit no problem.

There was a Bushmaster 11.5-inch HBAR upper that sold here on AR15.com a couple months back that had a M4 RAS mounted on it.  I asked (or tried to ask) if the HBAR mounted in his RAS and in a round about way he said it did!

Now, when people start "*"ing out model numbers I stop trying to ask questions but YOU might give SimonPhoenix an E-Mail!

Good Luck!

So the official answer on whether or not RAS fits 16" A2 (yes, I know M5 RAS fits 20" A2, and obviously it fits M4), or whether RIS has to be used is, "maybe."
