Paid $199 for it.  My first 870.  It was pre-owned but it doesn't appear the original owner shot it at all.

What's the consensus on these Tacticals?  I don't care for the taktikal OD green but it doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it at this point.

Damn, didn't these "tactical" magnums just come out and you already found a "used" one for $199? That was a hell of a find!

ETA - I would have to pull out the Norrels or something. That green has to go IMO

$199 is a steal.  The green color is ok.  It looks good.

The fellow at the gun shop said that the original owner bought it and didn't like the stock, so he bought another Remington and paid the gunsmith to swap furniture.

I thought the gunsmith spray painted the gun green, I didn't know that they came from the factory like that.  I remember seeing it on the shelf new a few months back with the original pistol grip stock for $299.  I knew this was a steal, if nothing was wrong with it.  I figured maybe the guy buggered something up.

Can the plastic trigger group be replaced with a steel one from an older 870?  I'm not too crazy about the plastic.

Yes, but I'm not sure where you can pick one up cheaply? The added benefit is you would get rid of that j-lock

Hows the finish on the bore and the top and bottom of the action bars?

Looks great!  Good job on the price too.  Now, just slap a Choate pistol grip stock on that baby and a surefire forend and you are GTG!

The bore looks new.  The action bars are blued, I assume they came with the replacement foreend.  I doubt very much that this gun's had more than a box of ammo through it.

I'll give ya $250 for it .  Great score!  Seriously, I'll give you $250 for it .

I was curious on the machining.  Ive seen several Express 870s with extremely rough action bars and bores.

The machining looks fine. No visible toolmarks in the bore or on the action bars.

I have one, paid right at 300.00 when they first came out, I love it. So yes, I would say that was a good deal you got for yours. I did MOD mine with a Surefire 618FGA integrated forearm weaponlight and had a smith tap my receiver for the mount and added a J-Point.

If you guys are looking for some great firearms coating see the boys at
www.ironridgeguns.com
They can outfit some bad ass short shot guns/or full size and coatings. Did a great job for us.

That's like finding a Sig P226 Near New under $500 (ask me how I know)

I like the color, all it needs now is a side saddle and maybe a pistol grip stock for a heck of a defensive shotgun. If you feel like going balls out and turn it into a Tactical Shotgun; then take it to www.wilsoncombat.com and have the guys at Scattergun Technologies work their magic on it.

I own a Mossberg 590A1, but if I wanted to own an 870, then this would be it:

Scattergun Technologies Professional Model.

I'd make a heck of a Cruiser Shotgun.

Or how 'bout...
P226 factory two-tone .40 S&W plus .357 SIG barrel LNIB $375
P228 CCR refinished reverse two-tone LNIB (all internals had been replaced by SIG and finish was obviously new) $320

P239 APW hard chrome .40 S&W LNIB $325

P220 .45 ACP great condition $355
I have NEVER paid more than $375 for any of my SIGs...  I love 'em so much.  Yes, you can start to hate me now
Sorry mods about this not being shotty related but I feel we can always appreciate some tasteful gun porn.
