So I got a Mosin. Now I want like 2 or 3 more mosins. I really want a m44.
My wife told me I am crazy to want more o them. (no pics) What does the hive think of having multiple copies of the same rifle? |
|
I certainly cannot tell you you're crazy, because I do have multiple copies of some models of Mosin-Nagant. The 91/30, M38, and M91 being the models I have several of.
Back when sub-$80 91/30s and sub $150 carbines were the norm, you could stop by the local gun show or the local gun store and leave with a rifle you paid almost literally nothing for. I did the same, to a lessor degree with Turk Mausers and K31s. |
| I have several copies of the AR platform, but I surely wouldnt consider the mosin a candidate for multiple copies, unless they were basically being given away dirt cheap to free. Maybe the old lady has a better perspective on this one(not usually the case when firearms are involved so tread carefully it may be a trap, LOL) |

These mosins will be the exact same. |

I think I'm back down to 4, working towards 2. I got rid of 3 barreled actions not long before I left, & the extra carbine stocks. I need to get my antique's trigger as sweet as the Remy's, & either figure out what scope mount it had or retap it for what I've got, then I can sell the Remy & the 33. That'll leave the antique & the Finn, all I need until it's time to build the coffee table:

I have 4 mosins (M38, M44, 91/30, and a Chinese M38). I also have multiple 5.56 ARs, multiple12 gauge Mossberg 590A1s, multiple 22 Savage Mark IIs, multiple 308 Remington 700s, multiple 9mm Glocks, multiple 9mm M&Ps, multiple 30-30 Marlin 336s. These days, it is a REQUIREMENT for me to buy a new gun that I must be able to afford two or more.
Needless to say, I don't think it is weird at all to have multiples. |
| Unless you are really attached to that particular type of rifle, I would not. I had three 91/30's, an M38, and an M44. They're all gone and I don't miss them, but selling them all after they had lost their charm was somewhat of a chore. If you have a specific task for each one- say one AR for blasting and another for precision- I'd think twice. |

The next one you buy should be a different factory. That way you can have 4 or 5 - don't remember how many there were.
I have an M 38, M 44, 2 Type 53s, 2 91/30s and 5 SVT 40s. Different factories and years and one ea of the 91/30s and SVTs are Fin captures. Then I get serious with my rifle collecting! I have about 15 Garands, 15+ G/K 43s and 65+ K98k rifles. It is Impossible to have to many of the same thing because unless the ser nrs are the same they are all "different" rifles! Sarge |

I started collecting Finnish mosins about 15 years ago. I also acquired a few nonFinnish ones. The Finnish mosins are highly accurate (generally under 2 MOA) compared to the Soviet 3-4 MOA for their rifles.
I now have about 30 Finnish mosins which have appreciated in price about 3 times what I paid for them. No two of my mosins are the same. There is a lot of history behind these rifles and they are fun to shoot. You can't beat the price of ammo either. |

And now I know why I shouldn't have sold the last 2 carbine receivers:
