IIRC all "Magnum" 870 receivers have an "M" at the end of the serial number. You can put a 3" chambered barrel on a non-magnum receiver but 3" shells will not cycle.
I am not 100% sure so maybe someone else can either confirm or call me a moron

My bad it is and "M"..got the magnifying glass out.
Using that link it looks like it could be a November of 1960. I'll get a hold of Remington on Monday Thanks for your help |
