I ma in talks with a guy to trade or buy a MARS sight from him. It is used and works fine. What is a good price for it?

For non-ir.  <600

For IR, perhaps up to $900.

That is my opinion for pricing.  As for actually having used one, I would suggest you get something else instead.

What is the issue with it?

It has already been discussed in other threads.  Please use the search function.

I really don't feel like typing out the list of reasons why I would advocate against the MARS sight.

They sit really high.  You're looking at a chin weld with a standard AR stock and you can't use BUIS unless you take the optic off.  The dot also shuts off when you depress the pressure pad for the IR laser, and the cable/pad are built in to the optic so mounting options are limited.  Other than that they're nice.  The built in IR laser zero works in conjunction with the red dot.  $900 for the IR is a bit high even.  New ones go for $700-$900, used I've seen at $400-$500 in good to fair external condition.

Wow several years ago the IR models were going for $600. For the longest time all you needed for the IR model was a LE or MIL id. I saw a number of them on shorty M249s in 04-05 but they were issue or purchased by the army.

Might try getting with some of the Israeli guys making mad bones on ebay. I bet they would send you one much cheaper than whatever the US based highway robber / govt protected capitalist will charge.
