So I am curious...
When I shoot clays and use my 12 Gauge Shoty, I tend to tuck my elbows in close to my body and lean in agressivly. I feel almost no recoil and I can get follow-up shots very quickly. I know there is also the "chicken wing" style (as I like to call it), and that way does not feel comfortable at all to me. I also tend to shoot my rifles the same way when standing, elbows tucked in and leaning forward. So..... How do you guys shoot, and what position is most comfortable to you? (Standing positions please, not bench shooting or prone etc) |

Actually, it feels a little UN-natural, because I'm not wearing body armor all the time anymore.

When I first started shooting black rifles back in the 90's it was very much the old style standing position that I had always used with rifles going back to my first .410 Shotgun when I was 12 years old. Now I definitely square up to my target with the right foot to the rear of my left and my stock is now on my pec rather then the nook of my shoulder. The older way of shooting made good sense back in the day when the idea was to limit the sight picture of the soldier standing by having him more to the side rather than sqaured up, but now with body armor you're actually better off in most cases taking a round to the front than to the side and being able to square up definitely helps manage your recoil and subsequent muzzle rise for better follow-up shots. |

I shoot my 12ga the same way. Leaning in, very aggressive.
I have to say, though, I disagree about the recoil. I definitely feel it. In fact, the reason I shoot it so aggressively is less a matter of technique and more because I almost have to get pissed at the gun to shoot it. |

I can't really do the chicken wing either.
Feels more natural to make my body the smallest silhouette possible, lean forward, and allow the bones of my arm to support the weight of the rifle. If I chicken wing I get tired more quickly, having to use muscles to support the weight. |
