I read that if you take a grandfathered spring and throw it into a new body and plate etc etc..... that it's legal but if it's a new spring then it isnt legal. Do they mark springs to show that they're new or old and also what's the scoop with the body? what's to prevent someone from making new magazines?

As in any action, there is nothing to stop someone from making new large capacity magazines. There's nothing to stop someone from robbing a quickstop either. But just as in robbing a quickstop, if you get caught, you'll go to jail. It's as simple as that.

It's against the law. The odds are, you won't get caught but if you do, then you will become a felon, lose any chance to have a CCL, probably lose any rights to ever own another firearm and maybe do jail time.

Sure doesn't seem worth it.

On your original question, it's not the springs that count, it's the magazine body. There may be no additional magazine bodies made. You may replace a bad one with a new good one, but the overall number may not increase at all.

You can replace EVERY SINGLE PART in the magazine.

What you can't do is start with 1 magazine and end up with 2.

Fight, you need to check out the ArmaLite web site. For an AR 10 owner to make a new magazine, he has to turn a magazine shell in.

So this:www.glockstore.com and type in "replacement magazine tubes" in the search area, is legal, as long as you use your existing spring, follower and baseplate?  Doesn't say whether these are factory tubes (I doubt it).

That was a business decision, not a legal requirement.

Yep.  The law allows for replacement of any and all parts.  Unlike the AR-15, where the lower receiver is the legal part that constitutes the gun, a magazine doesn't have a specific part that constitutes "the magazine".  So, if available, you can buy the spring, follower, baseplate and mag body.

I wouldn't suggest buying them all together and carrying them home in one sack!

If you think about it, the spring would be the worst part to pick, since it is moving and wears.

Brownells also sells newly manufactured hi-cap mag tubes as repair parts.

Only for Glocks.

Nobody seems to have balls to sell AR mag bodies

I’m too lazy to look in the catalog, but I’m pretty sure they also sell Para Ordinance mag tubes.

Per our own Troy, the lack of AR mag replacement tubes is probably since AR hi-caps are still relatively cheap.

if you say you got the magazine at a gunshow under the pre-ban table what are the chances of them arresting you?

Who knows?  Is it worth the risk?

Theoretically, it's the Gov's burden to PROVE you started with 10 prebans, bought enough replacement parts, and ended up with 20 prebans.

Now in AmeriKa today, you are really guilty until proven innocent.

So, do you feel lucky, punk?

RGUNS was selling them in Shotgun News a few month back but I don't know if they still do.  I'm not willing to do business with them though, heard to much bad news.

don't you mean "regular" capacity magazines, or unrestricted capacity magazines?
