I just saw an ad for a CVA muzzle loader with solid-state electronic ignition. This thing uses a 9v battery to power the circuitry. When I got my T/C Hawken, I kinda felt like I was compromising with heritage and tradition by getting a caplock instead of flint. Then I see this... abomination. I think that a segment of the sporting community has lost its soul. Electronic ignition. The main point of primitive arms is the historical heritage. I thought the in-line muzzleloaders using powder pre-measured in pellets was too modern. Now this... I may just have to go get me a rifle powered by rocks that spark... |
I suppose you're going to say you use air conditioning and have glass in your windows instead of covering them with animal skins. Well, back when I was a kid... |

I was just reviewing the new changes for the Pa early muzzle-loader season (which is already passed) and the electronic ignition is now legal in Pa. (but not for the late ML season. That's when i go and smack rocks and steel together) edited to add: Don't worry too much about the Hawken. If'n its good enough for Jeremiah johnson, its good enough for me. Watch your topknot! |
I'm one of "those people". My states shtgun season is the first two weeks in December. The rut is over. BP season encompasses all of November. We have no rifle season |
I enjoyed assembling & finishing mine so much I was a little disappointed when it was finished. There's something about pouring an explosive powder down a metal tube, ramming a lead ball on top of it, then lighting it off that you don't get with modern arms. |
| In MS, they count single shot .45-70's as "primitive". Hardly anyone shoots blackpowder just to shoot, it's all about extending the deer season. As soon as they did that, everyone's stock of Handi-Rifles was sold out and no one bought blackpowder rifles. Now it's hard to get blackpowder stuff off the shelf anymore, especially for cap and ball revolvers. They also allow electronic sights like red-dot scopes on blackpowder rifles..wtf? |
What he said! Of course, some of us like shooting smoothbore flintlocks using undersize musket ball in paper cartridges! Now there's a challenge- hitting anything other than a man-sized target past fifty yards. |
