I found an old wooden M1917 .50 M2 ball ammo box. It is Remington arms made. Ammo was packaged in cartons, 350 rounds. Any idea of when the U.S. Military stopped using the wooden crates and/or stopped getting ammo at the Bridgeport factory? I got it for $10 with no plans of selling I just loved its character and was trying to date it. I know it is at a min WWII since it is M2 ball and not M1. Lot number is hard to read but I assume dating it with a lot number would be almost impossible? Thanks for any help

Through WW2 and probably beyond.
Neat crate.... too bad it doesn't have lid and wingnuts.

They stopped using the colored stripes around 1943 or 44, so the box pre-dates that....
