Well, I can spend about $1400 on the AR15 rifle this year.  I'm cutting back all rifle buys to ARs, and building FALs.

Here's my dilemna.  I am looking at two options:

1. preban M4gery, PWA or Eagle lower-$800, Bushmaster M4 upper-$600, or a complete rifle for around $1400

2. Bushmaster 20" A3- $700 and a Bushmaster or RRA 20" A2-$700

Considering I already have a Bushmaster Shorty AK, the current political climate, and the AW ban sunset what would you do???

Thanks

If it were me, I would get a preban and buy a stripped lower.  That way you have the preban and a new lower just in case.  It would suck if the AWB disappeared and you had 2 postban rifles.  At least this way if it does pass, then you can build another preban postban.

Hope this helps.

2 post bans.  The stuff that ain't on them ain't that big of a deal.  if the ban sets with the sun you can go out and but all the stuff you want.  I'ld be really bummed buying a pre-b this close to 04 and then watch the value plummet.

2 post bans for the above mentioned reasons.

Preban, the AW ban will only get worse in 2004.  When it comes back in its new form, prices are going to go through the roof on preban weapons.  Buy now if you might ever even think of wanting one.

Buy a preban and then buy about 5 stripped lowers so when the next ban comes you'll have some AR's.

I'm telling ya, you can get into a preban for less than $1400 if you are patient and do your homework. Probably around $1100-$1200. I've got less than $1200 in both of my prebans. Than you'll have enough left over for a complete lower. And believe me when your patience pays off and you find that good deal on a preban, it's a good feeling!

Recently bought a verifiable preban lower for $600.  Bought a used M4 upper complete for $350.  That's less than a $1000 for an M4gery.

I bought an SP1 here out of the paper for $900.  I have seen them in gun shops for $1000.

Deals are out there.  You just gotta look.

Or, you could just get 4 AK's.  Or 8 SKS's.  Or 20 Jennings.

i have a preban, and will be buying some lowers soon. i figure with the sniper shit, the AW ban is only gettign worse, and one day they will call our post bans "pre 04".

Two postbans.  I personally don't see the need for a barrel shorter than 16", don't need retractable buttstock, and don't need bayonet lug.

The only decent mod I like on prebans is the flash suppressor.  However, a good muzzle brake and/or the proper powder/bullet combo can eliminate flash in a post ban.

For $1,400 I'd build two post-ban RRA rifles, with money left over for 1 or 2 more RRA stripped lowers.

If anyone feels the need for a barrel shorter than 16" you will need more than just a preban.

I would buy the Post-bans because the ban is going to sunset and you will be stuck with an overpriced rifle IMO. If you wait till after the elections on Tuesday, you will have a good idea of the makeup of congress and the likely hood of the ban being renewed or not.

Go for the pre-ban. I doubt these features will become legal again.

Well, the advice is about split.

Truthfully, I have'nt really decided what I'm going to do yet.  The results of tonight's election might have a small amount of pull.

I really just need to sit on my money until that deal of a lifetime preban comes by.

For instance, my buddy found a 98% preban Bushmaster carbine for $1175--private sale at the big Tulsa show.  Also, I saw a complete preban DPMS M4gery at a KC show for $800.

But, if I dish out all that cash on a preban, I want one that is going to be free of any issues.  So, I kind of want to stick to Bushmaster, Eagle, Colt, or PWA.  These all have forged lowers if I remember correctly.

Well, thanks for the advice.

i look at this way "would i rather have one rifle? or 2 complete rifles with cash left over?"

2 post bans for sure,  Who the hell cares about prebans anyway.  All you need is one bullet.  I like money myself

Talk about clueless!!!!!

A preban cannot have a barrel less than 16 inches.

Granted, the right powder can reduce flash to a certain extent, a muzzle brake sure as hell doesn't contribute to reducing flash.
