Hi,
I picked up a NV monocular off the EE, and really happy that I made the investment. Not fast-roping out of a helicopter or kicking in doors, but like having the ability to see in the dark. So, after looking around the house at night a few times, I decided that I'd want something a little more practical than holding it in my hand. This is a link to the thread I purchased it from, if pictures will help (don't like reposting other people's pictures), but I'll quote the description. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_172/1510936_____Generation_3___AB_Night_Vision_Pitbull_with_AVS_Optics____.html This is an excellent condition Generation 3 AB Night Vision Pitbull with Aviation grade optics. It works perfectly, and works with most PVS-14 mounts. I have about 100 hours on it and it works perfectly. The glass, and housing are absolutely flawless on this. The tube is exceptionally clean and is Generation 3. The padded case has a belt loop so you can take this with you on your hike. This is probably about the smallest you'll get a Gen 3 device, too. AB Night Vision AVS Monocular Built in IR Illuminator MX-10160 Generation 3, Omni III, tube. very clean and clear as seen in pictures. Auto Brightness (No Manual Gain) Non-Autogated Aviation grade glass (AVS-6) with Translating objective. Padded Case Lenspen CR123 Battery The forum member was very helpful with giving me info on the setup, and NV in general, but I'm still green in regards to all of this stuff. Anyways, I looked around and found a cheapish helmet, which is fine for what I'm looking for. Don't need to stop a bullet with it, so a glorified bump hat will work fine. http://tnvc.com/shop/pro-tec-bravo-half-shell-helmet/ The thing I'm confused on is what I exactly need to mount the NV monocular to the helmet. Considering the helmet I am looking at, I know I need to get a shroud for it. http://tnvc.com/shop/ops-core-vas-shroud/ Other than that, I figured this would attach to that shroud, and then to the NV. http://tnvc.com/shop/milspec-pvs-14-j-arm/ Is it really that simple, or am I missing something? Also, that J-Arm says that it cuts power to the NV when flipped up. I see the threaded hole that I'm guessing holds the NV on the arm, but there is also a brass flathead screw next to it, which I'm guessing would do something in regards to that feature. Not a big deal breaker, but I definitely don't want to back out that screw and mess something up. In regards to protecting the lenses, is there any coverings that would fit the NV I have? I was thinking about a microfiber pouch (like a sunglass one), and I have it in the bag that came with it. Was looking at a cover for the objective, but also a rubber eyepiece for the opposite side. Any help with this would be appreciated. I'm lost with this, and rather find out what I need prior to putting it on a credit card. Thanks for your time. |

You also need a rhino mount
The mount locks into the shroud or plate that's attached to the helmet. The Jarm screws on to the pitbull and clips into the rhino. Lots of rhinos in the EE for cheap. There's also Rhino II mounts that give vertical adjustment. There are also a ton more mounts that cost way more but reduce wobble. |

USGI RHNO II Arm - $45 Buy It Now I'd also look into a purpose built bump helmet like the Ops-Core Base Jump as well. It's a little bit more expensive (~$60) than the Pro-Tec + shroud, but you get easier accessory integration (ARC rails), and a more adjustable suspension system. Not that Pro-Tecs are not serviceable as well, but it's worth a look. https://tnvc.com/shop/ops-core-fast-base-jump-shell/ ~Augee |

rainmaker9, thanks for the info.
So, I'm guessing it is similar to optics... mounts increase in costs as you get better stability/flexibility. I'll have to take a look at them, being I'm sure helmets/people's heads don't line up across the board. Think I'll probably look for the Rhino II, in case I need to raise/lower the NV. Augee, thanks for the link. In my eBay watch list. And I'll probably opt for that helmet instead. I don't have that much of an issue tossing a few more dollars in to get a little better system (just not looking to spend $500+). In regards to sizes, do they measure like they would for a hat? I measured around 23" for where the adjustment collar of a hat would ride. Guessing that would be a large. |

I ordered one this week from TNVC and ended up switching to a Nightcap. |

We order in some pretty big quantity's with Ops, but MC is a dipped process and it always takes much longer for Ops to produce and keep up with demand. Thank you for the order and considerations (Augee) either way guys. Vic |

You might also want to consider a Cry Nightcap. Sometimes less is more.
https://tnvc.com/shop/crye-precision-nightcap%E2%84%A2-nvg-platform/ Out of what I own, I don't mind my Team Wendy Exfil LTP, but I generally grab my Protec Bravo because it it fits snug, but it *only* fits me. lol. I intentionally ordered it too small and cut the foam to fit. I also put a Team Wendy chin strap on it. Prior to these, I ran a Protec Ace that I customized heavily and drilled my own holes to mount the Norotos rhino shroud/mount. If you're not the only one wearing it, something with a dial lock liner might be the way to g - or the nightcap. |

Sorry for not replying sooner, long weekend. So long that I didn't even get a chance to mess with the 15-round S&W 10mm magazine that I received on Friday. And with work, probably going to sit in the safe until Tuesday. Quoted:

Are you a Bert or are you an Ernie? ![]() More of a Bert... I'm going to likely go that route... USGI. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to really cheap out on it, just I really don't have a need to get a $450 mount. Helmet doesn't need to stop rounds. If it holds the monocular somewhat steady, and probably more important... doesn't drop it, I'm good. I'll probably order the mount and J-Arm next week, then a helmet either next or the following month. Been an expensive past couple of weeks, and that magazine I mentioned was too much of an impulse buy that I'm going to have to slow it up for a little bit. Quoted:

Any help with this would be appreciated. I can connect the J-arm to the NV. But I cannot get the mount to connect to the J-arm...
