Backstraps the MTNmyMag did for me. The frame was done by me. Not too nice looking, but it gets the job done.

Large modified backstrap:

Medium cross texture (ultimate grip!):

Got bored and decided to try putting some stippling on my MOE and the thumb pad for the Scout light mount.

I tried out stippling as a form of marking/numbering my mags. Took longer to cut out the stencils than to mark it.

I suppose I will play too. I sanded off the ribs of my KAC panels and stippled them with the same soldering iron that the OP used. However, I used the tip that came installed on the iron.

Can you get some better close-up pics. Been wanting to do this on my KAC panels but haven't gotten around to it.

I tried to get some better pictures for you. I used a dremel to sand down the ribs and then used 80 and 120 grit sand paper to smooth out the panel before stippling it. Using a fine point on the soldering iron created the exact texture I was wanting.

How'd you do it? Draw it on and stipple around it?

Yep, sure did. It is very time consuming and requires more patience than most people have.

I hear you. I damn near go crossed eyed and blind by the time I get done stippling a mag. Couldn't imagine trying to throw a design in there too.

Anyone know where to get replacement tips for the soldering iron?

I was using the fine tip, but after a while it starts to wear out and bend.

Tried one out on my pmag. Like the feel so I'll do the rest and maybe find the balls to do my M&P.

I liked SecretSquirell's numbering system so I copied modified it.

I honestly don't recall how long it took. I have done all of my rail covers, but I didn't do them at one time. I would venture a guess that the full length panels took at least 30 mins a piece just for the stippling.

Yep, those are colored. Dyed actually. I stumbled on it by accident when trying to make some other colors. It's hard to get a solid black with dye and you never know what color something will be until you actually dye it. It's frustrating but I got some help in the rit dye thread here. Lots of useful info.

I've read people made them from a brass screw head, where they used a dremel to make the waffle pattern.  Possibly he did that..

Tried that once, but it was with a roundhead brass screw and the results weren't what I was going for. I think a flatheaded one would work better but that's all the local hardware store had on hand.

I wish I would've found this set when I was looking around. I like how short it is (I know, "that's what she said"), it's hard to get real fine control with a long soldering iron. Plus it has all those nice attachments.
