I have a small quandary.  I have an MP5 and an inbound HK33, can't keep both, just can't, which do I keep.  These are dealer samples and I just need on MG, which one?  No other choices just these.

Thanks guys,

I'd keep the MP5, imo.

Cheaper to feed, and the HK33 doesn't do much for me. Unless you chop it to 53 specs. Dunno if you can do that with a post-sample.

Tactical perspective would tell me to keep the HK 33. The MP5 is a short range gun at best due to cartridge limitations. The 33 would be both a long and short range cartridge with the advantages of both flatter shooting rounds and higher imparted energy levels. Charles the Gunsmith.

Thank you.  Both posts hold very strong reasons for one another.  I was leaning toward the 33 and thinking of going 33K, which is pretty easy, less ardious than going 53.  I was thinking tactically as well which lead me the way of the 33.  The Mp5 though is very easy to shoot and small as it is. Pretty reliable and cheaper to shoot.  Hhmm, still the 33 has more range.

Keep the one that you can maintain, find replacement parts for, and above all,  like the best.

I personally have a 53 and like it better than my MP5.  Hits harder, longer, flatter, and more AP capabilites when you need it.  5.56 NATO ammo will always be around here in the states.

Although I just bought a Gemtech Raptor 9mm can for the MP5, which will make it a nice platform

my 2 cents.

These are pre-May sample guns, right?  I mean, you can't really "keep" a postie.

My MGs are for fun.  The only thing more fun than a .22LR SMG is a 9mm SMG - especially with a suppressor.  Full-auto 5.56 is loud, expensive and can usually only be used on outdoor ranges.  With the MP5 you can suppress it, hang out in indoor ranges picking up 'range chicks' who think MP5s are the beesknees and even shoot it from time-to-time.  For me it's a no-brainer, 9mm every time.

I'm an HK LE dealer, all steel receiver HKs are being phased out, they are forcing us to sell new plastic guns.  The MP5 will be the last to go due to pressure from the Middle East customers who swear by them and have major buying power at HK.  Selling any steel HKs in the coming 24 months might be a bad idea, sell something else instead.  The market will be different in three years.

+1

I guess it would be the exact opposite of AR15 tradition to say SELL both.

It depends, what other rifles and/or subguns do you have?  If the 33 is your only rifle and you have a couple subguns, keep the 33.  The converse applies to the MP5.

To update my post my thinking goes like this.

The MP5 is one of the best 9mm subguns available. Hands down.

The HK33 is an okay 5.56mm rifle. Better exists.

Hey, thanks for all the responses!

I have just the MP5 and now the HK33, no other subguns or machine guns, that are keepers.

I have several AR15 platform rifles, all SA, love them all

I was just itching for a 5.56 FA that I did not have and with M16 prices skyrocketing, should have bought 5 years ago, this seemed like a reasonable option.  I don't do any range shooting at all any more, just out in the woods.

I have to say these are all great reasons for both, wish I could keep both.

I still have a little time to make up my mind.

I would keep the 33.  I think it'd be easier to find/make another DS-MP5 than it would a 33.

I will run some pic's tonight of the MP5.
