I'm looking at getting one new unused, it's a 1984 colt.  It's spendy 12k so before I do anything can y'all tell me if that's the norm as far as ballpark what it should cost.  I've asked others and no one has a clue and I don't want to screw myself.

Thanks

Also found a registered lower much cheaper, but I've heard that isn't the best way to go.  So, any ideas thoughts suggestions let me know.

Just to clarify you found a transferable M16 Colt that was manufactured about 1984 New and Unused that is only $12K?  is a Factory Colt? or a Conversion? etc???

Prices on Transerferable lowers haven't been that low in a few years.  Most of the used Colt M16's are running 18K+ with some getting them a few K lower.  a New Unused ones are going for $22K as high as $34K at auctions.

the last few months RDIAS have ranged from $18K to $22K and just this week there was one for $16.5 that could have been suspiciously priced low but think was legit it was sold quickly.

We need more information from you.

Deals do happen, albeit rare.

Just over a year ago someone I know online bought a non-Colt M16, complete, for $7500.

But yeah, I'd jump all over a $12k Colt M16 lower.

Colt never made RDIAS. So if there is one that someone claims to have, I'd walk away. Now if its a RDIAS installed in a colt lower of some sort, that's a different story. Who made the RDIAS? Take a look at a copy of the F4 to figure out what it really is.

Worst case it's a DIAS in a Colt, probably a SP1 and it's fixed to the gun.  Worst of all possible worlds.

Married DIAS.  Might have something to do with the price.

Something definitely doesn't sound right with this deal. But as requested my RDIAS was 12.9K in 2008.

The ATF doesn't consider married DIAS guns to be a proper conversion since the SN is on the receiver and an unserialized DIAS  was dropped in the lower instead of milling and drilling for a proper GI auto sear.

So you have a DIAS  that can't ever be moved from the lower which removes all the potential advantages of having a RDIAS such as utilizing different lowers. If I had to pick between a married DIAS gun and a LL, I'd take the link every time.

Pound for pound, is there anything more expensive?

A registered HK style sear runs a close second for sure.

Yep.

17k for my RDIAS in 2011, and 17k for my HK Qualified sear in 2012.  The HK sear definitely weighs less :)

OP...please give us more details after you get a look at the form 4.

Out of curiosity, what brand is your RDIAS?  Your looks very nice, and so does mine even after several 10,000 rounds.  Many others that I see out there look like they have been beat to hell.

Mine is a Broadhead and I've put just under 18K rounds through it since I picked it up in 2008.

Thanks.  I know after the M16A1, I'm going to want a second RDIAS, so I'll keep an eye out for a Broadhead one.  That one looks perfect.  Steel right?

Yep, it's all steel. I made another trip lever for use with a dedicated .22 upper, but I later modified the sear tripping surface in the .22 kit itself so I didn't have to swap trips at the range.

I may have to replace it one day, but at this rate it'll be a long time

I would guess that an FNC sear is probably worth more per ounce.

The sear is the size of a dime.

An HK sear is not much bigger and it 5 times more expensive.

At least you guys have them.

I grew up in Illinois, and since getting out, a FA AR/AK has been my dream gun, but always a little out of reach.

Ramen noodles, pack lunch, be cheap for two years, sell a few semi autos, etc and you can make it happen. I even made sure I didn't have a girlfriend for 2 years to get my first full auto.  Then pick a good wife and them you can get more.

It's worth the stretch, after all Ramen for a year probably won't kill you.

Nice!  When they were $99, I was FAR from being able to legally own one

Frank from ATFmachinegun is advertising a DIAS and a Knights HK trigger pack right now. Other than that I bought most of my MG's off the boards on subguns or sturmgewher.
