I'm reposting this from a different section of this forum (my apologies).  I have read this section FAQ's, pins, and other posts herein and still have questions.  I'd like to start from the beginning.

Ok. Since I'm new to this and having just completed my first built AR (1000 rounds and still grinning like a possum eating briars), I have to follow up on a suggestion to get it suppressed.

First, is it necessary? As a home defense weapon, I imagine it will be deafening without it being suppressed but will it matter or is this just for cool factor?

Second, assume I choose to get a suppressor ... 1) will it effect accuracy and 2) how do I actually get one?

Third, which one is recommended and how do you attach it? I have a 14.5" BCM EAG upper with a Battle Comp BC 1.5 currently attached.  For example, will the Surefire everyone seems excited about fit over this or will I have to remount a Surefire FH/MB.

yes, it will be deafening if fired inside a house.  even with a can on shooting full power loads, it'll still be unpleasant inside a confined space.
here's the question: do you want it quieter than it is now?  if yes, get a can.  if you dont care, dont mess with it.
besides, chances of you ever having to use it inside your home are incredibly slim

does not affect accuracy.  might affect POI, but not accuracy itself
best bet is go to your hometown forum and see about good dealers close to you (as buying instock is preferable).  aside of that, just research a lot and see what seems to fit your wants/needs and budget.  you'll also need to find a dealer close to you that will handle the transfer (if buying from someone out of state)

Third, which one is recommended and how do you attach it? I have a 14.5" BCM EAG upper with a Battle Comp BC 1.5 currently attached.  For example, will the Surefire everyone seems excited about fit over this or will I have to remount a Surefire FH/MB.
this will be strictly up to you.  typically people like QD cans as once the mount is tight, they are much less likely to work themselves loose.  that's not set in stone though.  but you can also have mounts on other guns and be able to move your can around more/better.  typically cans have their own proprietary mounts.  AAC and YHM come to mind.  I think surefire has their own?  although there are a few cans that will attach to regular a2 flash hiders.  options are more limited though.
this is very general info.  as much as it sounds like a dick statement; read here.  then read some more.  then search out the different manufacturors and read all about their cans.  then google the cans and add "review" to the search.  there is a freaking PILE of info out there.
now get to work.  and good luck!

First: No it's not necessary. The body has a weird way of dealing with loud noises when adrenaline is involved, but it wouldn't hurt to have one for home defense.

Second: See above poster.

Third: Like above ask in your hometown forum and see if anyone will let you shoot their set-up.

Fourth: Contact silencer shop. They make buying a suppressor super easy.

Just to touch on Fury's post, that dB level inside a confined space will cause permanent hearing loss. You might not notice how loud it is when it happens, but that doesn't change the fact that the pressure will cause physical damage to the structures responsible for detecting sound.

Thanks for your help.

I'll keep all y'all updated.
I'll be doing a lot of reading over the next few nights on this.
Fury: what do you mean by "contact a silencer shop"? The manufacturers? Examples?

Silencer Shop

They are an AR15.com industry partner and they also have a little button with other vendors on the bottom of your screen. The button location changes every time your screen is refreshed/you go somewhere else but it's always on the bottom.
