| To the M1 Garand experts. I have a '43 Springfield Garand. I noticed the operating has a slight arc to it. It's between the gas tube and where it goes into the stock (behind the front handguard). If I remove the gas tube and cycle the action, it seems like it's very smooth. Once I put it back together, It seems like it binds slightly. Can I straighten it ? Or is that something better replaced ? The rifle shoots fine. Thanx........ |

After closer examination, it rubs a little in the gas tube, but rubs alot on the thick part (chamber ?) of the barrel. |

On a National Match rifle they would make sure the op rod didn't bind or touch, on a standard grade if it ain't broke don't fix it. (unless you think the rubbing is causing accuracy problems and making you mis the target at 500 yards) Post your question at the M1 Garand - CMP Forums and see what the pros have to say But this is where I read that many op rods rub and bind and not to worry about it unless the rifle will not function. |

The gun has a Springfirld Sporters barrel on it. Maybe the O/D on their chambers are a little bigger than GI. The rifle functions fine. I can feel it bind a little when I pull the bolt back to load it. Sometimes I have to give it a little nudge with the heel of my hand to get it to snap closed. It's not that big a deal. |

If your talking about the bolt not slamming shut when the clip latches, that's just the bolt binding up on the first round in the clip. My H&R correct does this almost every time, it's just automatic to give it a slap with my palm. |
