I was with my GF garage sale'ing yesterday and at one guys place there was a tin of old or odd ammo.  I ended up buying ($.05) what appears to be a Lake City 1944 head stamp 50 BMG round.  Only thing is it has NO primer or FLASHOLE!

This strikes me as just a touch odd. Anyone have any info on these critters?

Looks like a dummy round.

...shake it too!
Any powder in it?

I've heard of new production brass before where the primer flash hole hadn't been punched...

Yeah they were making millions of rounds a month I am sure QC suffered a little.

It's either a dummy or a mistake, if it has powder its a mistake. Yes they were making them that early, I have a case from 1921 with an original ball round. The ball round was a lot bigger, I'll have to check but I think it was 700+ grains.

We use them for training, and testing and function checks.  It probably does not have powder, as we have some in the shop just like it but with Korean War era dates on them.
