Kershaw makes good knives.  Check out the blur.  It can be bought at walmart for around 50.

I'm not fond of serrated edges but you could also go with the Spyderco Tenacious. It comes in a plain and serrated edge. I have one on order myself.

i carry the kershaw blur around all day and love it, works great and the serrated edge is nice if i need to do something like cut thick cardboard or something that needs a little sawing action.

CRKT Model M16-12Z. I've mine for over 10 years and it has been great.  Fits in the 5th pocket of a lot of jeans, opens quickly when you get used to the flipper on the blade, and all around pretty durable.

I gota give a +1 on this... I have had my CRKT M16-13z for almost 10 years and in that time I have carried it every day. As of the last 6 months the blade is starting to wear out but dude 10 years for a knife under 50 bucks...

I have used this thing to do everything from opening boxes to killing rattle snakes... three of them last summer.

I've carried an Endura for 14 years and still do.  I got the Tenacious a few months ago.  The Tenacious is every bit as good as the Endura, yet cheaper.  If your a Spyderco fan, pick one up.

I also got the G10 Endura 4, I'm not as impressed with it.

Curious as to how you did that.  I dont like being within pistol range of poisonous snakes, let alone pocket knife range.

I killed a cottonmouth with my Endura years ago but by budd had its head pinned with a shovel at the time.

Spyderco Delica or Tenacious would be my first choice but one of the best bang-for-the buck "cheap" folders out there is the Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter and it's less than half of your alloted budget. That would give you enough money left over to by a second one or a basic sharpening system.

I killed my first rattle snake when I was 9... they are all over the place around here and you just learn to deal with them. Little guy like the one in the pic is easy; I just stepped down right behind his head almost on his head and then separated it from the rest of him with the knife. The big ones you can tail then step on then follow instructions above... That said if you haven't dealt with venomous snakes best thing to do is give them a wide birth...
