What do you consider 1st tier guns - HK, Sig, FN, Glock?
Would Ruger be considered 2nd tier or 1st tier? I'm asking because I see guns like Canik, Tristar, Bersa you know Turkish/Latin/Filipino guns that are giving the big names a run for their money. I guess these would be 3rd tier guns? |

Agree. Useless. And some manufacturers (perhaps most) have multiple levels of quality, and periods in which quality was higher or lower. You can't just go by manufacturer.
A Winchester Model 12 pump shotgun might be this hypothetical "tier 1" while its later replacement Model 1200 would be "tier 3", at best. Sticking with Winchester, for a moment, a pre '64 Model 70 is held in much higher regard than those made in the transition period, like in '68-69. There are no tiers. |

I think it depends on the model of the weapon in some cases and can't always be based solely on the manufacturers name. Great point. I love old S&W revolvers but never really trusted their semi-auto pistols. Love the 10-22, but not a fan of Ruger's semi-auto pistols. H&K? Pretty much everything they make. (Although others consider them over priced and engineered.) |

there is no such thing if quality really mattered tier 1 would be pre lock S&W, pre 64 Winchesters steel walthers and browning high powers there would be no other tiers. t That could be true, but most modern Smiths are made to better tolerances, most any budget off the shelf rifle will have a better trigger and shoot better than most sporter barreled pre 64 Winchesters (though a fair bit uglier), the steel Walthers were all clunky guns, and Browning Hi-Powers have varied greatly through the years. The modern ones are the most uninteresting but the best mechanically. |
