The other night while shooting my suppressed .22, I noticed that it had a fairly loud first round pop (I realize this is normal).  I unmounted the suppressor after a mag and blew out the smoke, re-mounted it and fired again.  I got the same first round pop.

Later that evening I went back out to shoot and my brother who smokes was with me.  I had him fill the supressor with smoke and mounted it quickly.  I then fired a few rounds and the first one seemed much quieter to me.

Am I crazy, or has anyone else done this?

TIA

Just exhaling into the suppressor is a common way to reduce the first round pop and flash.

I don't think the smoke is necessary.   It might help but I wouldn't take up smoking for that.

FRP is related to how much oxygen is in the can.  Just goes to show you ho bad smoking is for you.

Yeah, I don't smoke, but hey.... if someone wants to offer to put smoke in there for me!

I'd rather not ruin the sweet smell of burning gunpowder with cigarette smoke!

I tried using those cans of air duster. Make sure it is a non-flammable type. Fill the can with the inert gas. When I went hunting I wold use a piece of electrical tape over the bore to keep it in place. Works great and I don't have to smoke.

For hunting you can fire the first round into the ground and then place a piece of masking tape over the can.  The second shot will be quiet as usual.
