I'll get right to it...main use will be on a 8.5" .300 BLK Pistol AR but will also be used on 16"5.56 and 16" .308 ARs. Mainly debating between an AAC SDN-6 or Surefire SOCOM 7.62, but will consider other options. Thought I would turn to those with more hands on experience than me for some help. I can get the SDN-6 for $945 out the door (before tax stamp) an the SF SOCOM for $1620, dealer tells me he is a Surefire guy and would go that route mainly because of the mounting system but that I would be happy with either. I have basically gotten the same feedback from other people as well. I'm not trying to be cheap, but $700 (+$50/ more per mount) is a decent amount of money, is it really worth it? I have read about some AAC 51T mounting complaints but also have read a ton of people that love them and have no issues. What do you all think?

I'll be 'that guy'... I don't have one yet ;)... but I just ordered the Silencer Co Omega after starting off thinking I wanted a SF SOCOM..  Using mine on a 16" 5.56, and 16" .308...  Omega is rated down to 8" on the 300 Blackout.

I have an sdn6 and really like it but if I were to buy again(bought two years ago) I would get the Omega for sure. Lighter, close to the same performance, better mounts, shorter, and should have less POI shift with the direct thread mount. The surefire is overpriced in my opinion.

I have also ran across several people liking the SilencerCo Saker. I would have to get a price from the dealer to compare exactly but it seems that it would fall right between the AAC and SF based on MSRP and a mounting system more comparable with SF. Would be interested on feedback regarding these too.

Another Omega vote. I ordered one. If your wanting a Surefire can then look at the other thread on the Socom 300 blackout can. Looks very interesting and under a $1000. Just might be a little while

Saker 762 was the first can I purchased, and I love the flexibility of the mounting system.

Performance isn't bad either...

This ^   - I went with the saker as well. A lot of people are jumping on the omega band wagon and few have actually shot one. Its a good can I am sure, but the saker is proven and built like a tank.

Edit: You don't have to shoot a can in order to buy one, but I would at least shoot one before recommending them.

My first can was a Saker 762 but I just bought an Omega.  If I had to do it again I still would go with the Saker as its built like a tank.

As long as you say to yourself that your never going to build another AR then the Omega would suit your needs the best.

What does building another AR have to do with anything?

If he would decide to build a SBR under 10" then I would suggest the saker.  As the Omega is only rated to 10".

This is from research only. Mine is still in jail. But I picked up the Specwar 7.62. A little on the heavy side. But great mount and suppression. Plus it's rated down to 7" barrel length on 5.56 and 300. Did I mention it can handle 300RUM?

If you are looking at the SF SOCOM762RC, why not consider the SOCOM300BO.
Quite a bit cheaper and, as all new SF SOCOM cans do, comes with a muzzle break, which will save you some $$.
They are impressive and at a incredible price point.

my first centerfire can was a saker 762, and I would purchase it again. Can't go wrong with a specwar or omega either. I'm sort of a silencerco fan boy though.
